Position Description:
CLP Engineering (CLPE) is growing our engineering team in Corona, and seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer IV- Substation Design with a PE license and 8+ years of engineering/utility Industry experience to join us. Due to the nature of our work as a Federal Contractor, candidates must be a US citizen.
Key | Responsibilities:
- Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
- Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for small-scale system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems.
- Develop/review complex electrical system models and validate various system study findings/recommendations.
- Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
- Create system model for large-scale power system in ETAP (or similar software) and perform various power system analysis/studies.
- Develop bill of material and technical specifications for various electrical projects. Schedule and attend field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to understand and determine project requirements.
- Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
- Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
- Update and maintain GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
- Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects, develop concept design, and present the design to CLPE Management and the customer.
- Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
- Keep up to date with utility industry standards and codes. Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for our O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations.
- Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios and assist crew to implement corrective actions.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution system.
- Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle in tracking and understanding the basis of cost estimate.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance and support to help them grow in their professional careers.
Project Management Duties:
- Preparation of project construction schedules
- Submission of request for information to clients.
- Act as primary point of contact for projects and facilitating design/review process.
- Coordinate meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables, and addressing outstanding open items as requested by clients.

Skills | Knowledge | Experience:
- BS degree, Electrical Engineering, from accredited university with emphasis in power systems required.
- PE License required.
- Minimum of eight (8+) years of work experience in the electric utility industry.
- Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system required.
- Expert with power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination required.
- Experienced in blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services required.
- Ability to prepare and maintain construction project schedules in Microsoft Project.
- Experience with ETAP or similar software.
- Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Travel:
- 20-30% travel
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- You will be required to obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Compensation | Benefits::
- We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.
- Salary range: $151,000-$177,000 based on experience plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.
- We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
