Position: EH&S Manager
Reports To: Senior R&D Manager

Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost liquid-phase nano-coating addresses critical electrode-surface degradation issues and enables batteries with a Silicon-dominant anode that have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Our Si anode material is 50% the cost of graphite and 100% domestically sourced. We strive to transform the global automotive market by enabling low-cost and long-range EVs as a first step towards net-zero sustainability in the near future.

Core Responsibilities: We are looking for a EH&S Manager to ensure our operations meet the highest standards of safety and compliance. This hire will be instrumental in developing and implementing industrial safety, industrial hygiene and environmental programs, managing regulatory compliance, and fostering a safe and environmentally conscious work environment. The ideal candidate has a strong background in creating and implementing EH&S programs for a fast growing company and can act on his/her own initiative.

  • Create infrastructure and process to manage safety across technical teams including R&D and pilot scale manufacturing
  • Perform hazard identification, risk assessment, and gap analysis of site activities and develop risk-based corrective action plans
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for Coreshell safety program including emergency action plan, injury and illness prevention plan, chemical hygiene plan, hazard communication, safety drills, etc.; ensure employees are trained and prepared
  • Review SDS of new hazardous materials, communicate proper storage and use conditions to scientists
  • Maintain full chemical inventory, test peroxide forming chemicals
  • Collaborate cross functionally with technical teams to improve existing safety programs, and performing internal EHS audits and walkthroughs to maintain a high level of adherence
  • Facilitate the investigation and timely identification of incident root cause and corrective action and actively support injury prevention initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. Interface with local CUPA, fire department, etc.
  • Participate in biweekly lab cleaning and safety meetings and monthly Safety Committee Meetings

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in an EH&S role in a laboratory or manufacturing setting 
  • Ph.D or Master’s Degree in Chemistry 
  • Expert knowledge of chemical safety hazards and safety risks analysis (HAZOP, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of EH&S compliance and regulations, including OSHA and other workplace safety requirements
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to data
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment 

Location & Benefits: San Leandro, CA, $130,000 - 165,000. Salary and equity options depend on experience. Dental, vision, healthcare and 401(k) benefits are included. Applications will be screened as received.
