Job Description

RESPEC is seeking an experienced Drilling Procurement & Contracts Manager to support our growing drilling operations and take a leading role in the procurement and contracting of drilling services, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the oil and gas industry, with significant experience developing, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts, along with hands-on experience sourcing and procuring drilling, completions, and well services. The selected candidate will apply established oil and gas procurement and contracting practices to drilling and well programs supporting geothermal, underground storage, mining, solution mining, injection wells, carbon management, and other subsurface projects.

This is a senior, highly autonomous position. The successful candidate will serve as the company's primary internal resource for drilling procurement and contracting and will be expected to independently manage these activities with limited day-to-day supervision.

The position will work closely with drilling personnel, project managers, engineers, and company leadership to develop contracting strategies, identify qualified vendors, negotiate commercial terms, and ensure drilling projects have the services and resources required to execute successfully.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development, negotiation, execution, and administration of contracts supporting drilling operations.
  • Develop and negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), service agreements, purchase orders, work orders, and other commercial agreements.
  • Manage procurement activities for drilling contractors, service providers, equipment suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Lead bid solicitation, evaluation, contract award recommendations, and commercial negotiations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify vendors and contractors to support drilling projects.
  • Partner with drilling teams, engineers, project managers, and leadership to develop contracting and procurement strategies.
  • Manage contractual risk and support the resolution of claims, disputes, and change orders.
  • Monitor market conditions, supplier performance, and opportunities to improve cost, efficiency, and service quality.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of experience in oil and gas procurement, contracts management, commercial management, drilling operations, or related fields.
  • Proven experience developing, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Experience supporting drilling, completions, well services, or related energy-sector operations.
  • Strong understanding of commercial risk management and contract negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage procurement and contracting activities independently.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Contracts Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working directly with drilling contractors and oilfield service companies.
  • Experience establishing or improving procurement and contracting processes within a growing organization.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
