Title: Director, Social Media

Position Summary 

The Director of Social Media leads the organization’s social media strategy and oversees its day-to-day execution across the Sacramento Kings, Golden 1 Center, and Stockton Kings. 

This leader is responsible for advancing the organization’s digital storytelling, growing and engaging its global fanbase, and creating distinctive online experiences that strengthen connections between fans and our brands. The Director will lead, coach, and support the professional development of five full-time and part-time team members while collaborating closely with partners throughout the organization. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and lead an integrated social media strategy that supports organizational priorities, strengthens brand affinity, and increases audience engagement. 

  • Guide platform-specific storytelling across social media (Instagram, Tik Tok, X, YouTube). 

  • Lead the planning and execution of social coverage for home and away games, live events, organizational announcements, and other key moments across all brands. 

  • Oversee the development of timely, compelling, and culturally relevant content while maintaining brand voice, editorial standards, and platform best practices. 

  • Manage the integration of marketing campaigns and corporate partnerships across social platforms, including ideation, planning, activation, and performance reporting. 

  • Develop and oversee paid social media, creator, and influencer strategies that support audience growth and organizational objectives. 

  • Establish performance goals and use audience insights, social listening, and analytics to evaluate results, identify opportunities, and continually improve content and engagement strategies. 

  • Monitor emerging platforms, technologies, audience behaviors, and cultural trends, recommending thoughtful and innovative ways to enhance the digital fan experience. 

  • Lead community engagement practices, including audience interaction, reputation management, and the appropriate escalation of sensitive or high-impact issues. 

  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing social media team. Establish clear priorities, encourage collaboration, and create opportunities for professional growth. 

  • Build strong relationships across departments and provide responsive, solutions-oriented service to internal and external partners. 

  • Support additional digital and organizational initiatives as assigned. 

Qualifications  

Required 

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in social media, digital content, journalism, communications, broadcasting, video production, or a related field. 

  • At least 5 years of experience managing and developing team members, establishing priorities, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Significant experience leading social media strategy and multimedia storytelling for a prominent consumer, sports, entertainment, or global brand. 

  • Demonstrated experience managing brand accounts across major social platforms, with the ability to evaluate and adopt emerging platforms based on audience and business needs. 

  • Strong understanding of content strategy, community engagement, paid social media, creator partnerships, platform optimization, and digital performance measurement. 

  • Proven ability to translate cultural and industry trends into relevant, brand-appropriate content and fan experiences. 

  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal communication, and presentation skills, with exceptional attention to detail. 

  • Sound judgment and the ability to make timely decisions in high-visibility, rapidly changing situations. 

  • Strong leadership, collaboration, responsiveness, and customer-service skills. 

  • Proficiency with contemporary social publishing, analytics, content management, productivity, and artificial intelligence tools. 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that regularly includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as travel. 

Preferred 

  • Experience working in professional sports, live entertainment, media, or another real-time content environment. 

  • Familiarity with the NBA, Sacramento Kings, entertainment, and contemporary culture. 

  • Working knowledge of creative production tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, mobile and professional camera systems, content management platforms, and sports-content distribution tools.
