Ready to be a Titan?

We’re looking for a Director of R&D Operations to optimize operations for our software development teams at ServiceTitan. This role focuses on building and scaling best-in-class processes and automation to help our engineering and product teams deliver high-quality software faster and more efficiently. You will lead initiatives to improve release cycles, reduce manual workflows, and automate operational tasks across key areas like release management, Agile practices, PDLC, Bug SLAs, and release enablement (GTM).

Additionally, you’ll own headcount planning and administration to ensure we hire the right roles at the right time, while managing pacing to our R&D operating budget, ensuring effective resource allocation to achieve business outcomes.

This role is ideal for a strategic operator and problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment with a deep understanding of software development processes and a passion for optimizing how teams build and ship software.

What You’ll Do:

  • Optimize Software Development Operations: Design and implement scalable processes that improve efficiency and quality for product and engineering teams.

  • Lead Release Process Transformation: Drive continuous improvement of release practices for both monolithic and microservices-based systems, reducing cycle times and improving quality.

  • Automate Operational Workflows: Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual effort across release management, PDLC, Agile, Bug SLAs, and release enablement processes.

  • Headcount Planning & Resource Management: Own headcount administration to ensure we hire and deploy resources strategically. Partner with talent acquisition and finance to manage hiring forecasts and backfill reviews, ensuring expenses align with business goals and supporting leadership with accurate forecasting and reporting.

  • Define and Track Key Metrics: Build dashboards and KPIs to measure release efficiency, automation impact, team productivity, and budget utilization. Use data-driven insights to drive improvements.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering, product management, DevOps, QA, and finance to ensure alignment on operational goals, automation initiatives, and resource planning.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing team of program managers and operators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Extensive Experience in Software Development Operations: 10+ years in operations, program management, or release management for software development teams, with a focus on optimizing processes at scale.

  • Deep Knowledge of Software Development Processes: Proven expertise in release processes, PDLC, CI/CD pipelines, and automation within product and engineering organizations.

  • Automation Mindset: Hands-on experience identifying and implementing automation across manual processes in Agile, release management, and bug resolution workflows.

  • Budget & Resource Management Expertise: Prior experience managing large budgets ($10M+), with a focus on headcount planning, resource allocation, and financial reporting.

  • Data-Driven Leadership: Strong ability to define and track success metrics, leveraging data to inform decisions and continuously improve operations.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated success partnering with product, engineering, DevOps, and business teams to align on strategic priorities and execute operational improvements.

  • Hands-On, Strategic Problem Solver: Comfortable with both high-level strategy and tactical execution, driving operational excellence across complex teams.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
