Life insurance is one of the world's most important products. It's also one of the hardest to build, distribute, and modernize. Bestow exists to change that.
Bestow is a leading vertical technology platform serving some of the largest and most innovative life insurers. Our platform unifies the fragmented, legacy value chain, enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years. Carriers choose us to scale and operate at unprecedented speed, powered by AI and automation.
Bestow isn't selling policies. We're building the infrastructure that helps an entire industry move faster, reach more people, and deliver on its promise.
Backed by leading investors (Goldman Sachs, Hedosophia, NEA, Valar, 8VC) and trusted by major carriers, Bestow is powered by a team that moves with precision, purpose, and heart. If you want to help reimagine a centuries-old industry with lasting impact, join us.
Bestow offers flexible remote/hybrid work, meaningful benefits, equity, and substantial growth opportunities.
Bestow participates in the E-Verify Program.
ABOUT THE TEAMThe Engineering Team is responsible for all technology at Bestow and the Bestow Platform. We serve employees, consumers, and enterprise customers. Engineering works closely with product management and design to define and prioritize the product roadmap.
ABOUT THE ROLEWe are looking for a Director of QA who acts as both a strategic business leader and a technical architect. You will not just manage a team; you will define how quality operates within a complex, distributed environment involving microservices, feature flags, and frequent independent deployments. You will be the face of Quality at Bestow, representing our reliability standards to Enterprise Customers and Executive Leadership. While you may not be writing code daily, you must possess the technical depth to challenge engineering decisions, architect automation strategies, and drive innovation through AI and observability.
WHAT YOU’LL DOStrategic Quality ArchitectureDefine and own the Quality Architecture for a distributed system, creating strategies that handle complexity (microservices, feature flagging) without relying on slow, full-regression suites.
Champion "Shift Left" and "Sticky Team" models, ensuring QA is embedded in the design and requirements phase rather than acting as a final gatekeeper.
Drive the adoption of AI-enabled testing tools and use of modern observability platforms to predict defects before they reach production.
Move beyond vanity metrics (e.g., test case counts). Build and present "Quality Intelligence" dashboards that correlate engineering health with business outcomes (e.g., Defect Escape Rate, Time-to-Recovery, Customer Impact).
Utilize data to resolve conflicts between "feature velocity" and "quality risk," providing leadership with the insights needed to make go/no-go decisions.
Act as a technical consultant during the pre-sales and implementation process, presenting Bestow’s testing strategies to Enterprise Customers to build trust.
Collaborate directly with customer testing teams to align integration testing plans and support their internal user acceptance testing (UAT).
Scale a high-performing, hybrid team (FTEs, contractors, offshore) that balances manual exploratory testing with high-velocity automation.
Mentor QA Engineers to think like architects—moving them beyond finding bugs to preventing them through better system design.
The Architect-Leader: 8+ years in QA with 3+ years in leadership. You have likely been an SDET or Automation Engineer in the past and still retain the ability to read code, debug complex architecture, and discuss system design (APIs, Eventual Consistency, Data Flow) with Staff Engineers.
The Modern Tech Stack Native: You understand the unique testing challenges of Distributed Systems, Microservices, and Feature Flags. You know how to architect test strategies that utilize observability (Datadog, New Relic) to diagnose issues in production.
The Innovation Driver: You have demonstrated experience implementing AI/ML testing tools and data-driven quality dashboards.
The Communicator: You are comfortable presenting to C-Suite executives and external Enterprise Clients. You can translate technical risks into business language.
The Domain Expert: Experience in high-compliance industries (Insurance, Fintech, Healthcare) is strongly preferred. You understand SOC2, GDPR, and the rigor required for regulated software.
Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated industries
Advanced automation and performance testing tools experience
Linux systems and database testing experience
QA certification (ISTQB, CSTE) or startup/scale-up experience
Experience building QA metrics dashboards and reporting systems
