Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occured since the game's launch 4 years ago.

The Director, Publishing & Marketing is a key leadership role within the Games Division. Reporting directly to the General Manager of Games, You will be the architect of our global expansion, pioneering new commercial models and shaping the go-to-market strategy for an IP with a massive, dedicated following.

We are looking for a leader who will expand Mob’s reach into new global audiences and pioneer marketing strategies for new monetization models (including Premium, F2P, and Live-Ops/GaaS). This leader will be accountable for end-to-end publishing: positioning, GTM strategy, storefront performance, paid experimentation, partnerships/platform relations, and marketing analytics. You’ll lead and mentor an existing team, build missing capabilities (in-house and/or via agencies), and operate as a key cross-functional partner to other leaders in the games division.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Go-to-Market & Publishing Strategy
  • Devise and execute comprehensive publishing strategies for all Mob titles, encompassing branding, publishing timelines, distribution platform negotiation, storefront optimization, and lifecycle pricing strategy.
  • Design tailored GTM strategies that support a variety of monetization approaches.
  • Own platform and partner relations (Steam, PlayStation,Nintendo, Apple, etc.) to secure featuring, marketing support, and strategic distribution opportunities.
  1. Growth, UA, & New Monetization (Expanding the Audience)
  • Pioneer marketing approaches for new monetization models, working closely with Product and Game Design to align player acquisition strategies with in-game economies.
  • Lead User Acquisition (UA) and performance marketing. Establish and manage target CPIs, ROAS, and LTV models to efficiently scale players for upcoming titles.
  • Architect and optimize global advertising budgets across social, search, display, and influencer channels, ensuring maximum ROI on marketing spend, or manage our external agency partners to achieve the same.
  1. Cross-Functional Leadership & The Greenlight Process
  • Serve as the "Voice of the Player" on the studio's Greenlight Committee. Participate on the greenlight committee to evaluate new game pitches, providing business cases, sales forecasts, and marketability assessments.
  • Collaborate deeply with Creative, Production, and Data/Analytics to ensure feature sets and content updates contain highly marketable "hooks" that resonate with our target audiences.
  • Work closely with the Licensing & Transmedia teams to ensure game marketing campaigns synergize with film, TV, and merchandising beats.
  1. Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the existing marketing team. Foster a culture of high accountability, data-driven decision-making, and creative risk-taking.
  • Empower your team to manage their domains effectively while providing them with clear strategic direction and removing blockers.
  • Maintain Mob's brand identity: ensure our marketing, PR, and creator/influencer relations remain authentic and player-first.
Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive consumer marketing experience with a solid track record of managing direct reports, contractors, and external vendors and partners.
  • Game Industry Publishing Expertise: Must have a proven track record of shipping premiere games as a marketing leader. Deep understanding of both Premium and Live-Ops marketing lifecycles.
  • Audience Growth: Demonstrated success in identifying and building player bases in new audiences for both existing and new IP.
  • Data-Driven Marketer: Advanced knowledge of marketing analytics and campaign tracking, ability to take complex datasets and distill them into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Effectiveness: Exceptional ability to build consensus, influence without steamrolling, and partner effectively with highly creative and independent development teams.
  • Team Leadership: Proven experience managing, mentoring, and restructuring marketing teams, with a passion for developing talent.

Preferred:

  • A passionate gamer with a genuine understanding of the horror space.
  • History of negotiating and executing major global platform co-marketing deals.
  • Established relationships with first-party platforms (Sony, MSFT, Valve) and global gaming media/creators.
  • Bachelor's degree or MBA.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
