Job Title

Director, Product Management, Card Not Present Payments

What does a Director, Product Management, Card Not Present Payments do?

In this role you’ll own the strategy, roadmap, and global execution for Clover’s Card Not Present (CNP) payments portfolio, including e-commerce APIs and integrations, payment links, invoicing, recurring billing, alternative payment methods, authorization optimization, fraud management, dispute automation, and payment system compliance. This is a product leadership role at the heart of Clover’s omni-channel strategy, with responsibility for growing merchant accounts, processing volume, and high-margin revenue, as well as delivering seamless digital payment experiences. You’ll lead a team of product managers and work closely across engineering, product design, marketing, developer relations, and sales channels to win in the market.

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Develop a comprehensive card-not-present payment product strategy aligned with Clover’s overall mission, business priorities, vertical markets, and growth targets.
  • Create a product vision and multi-year roadmap across Clover’s e-commerce, mobile, and API/SDK products, balancing vertical strategies, merchant needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Identify emerging trends and technologies in online payments and alternative payment methods to drive competitive differentiation.
  • Define our e-commerce integrations and developer partner strategy spanning key platforms and third-party developer solutions.
  • Develop a clear strategy to migrate legacy merchants from legacy gateways, and drive net-new merchant acquisition.
  • Represent the CNP product team in executive reviews, partner negotiations, and strategic planning cycles.

Product Development & Roadmapping

  • Drive the end-to-end product development lifecycle from ideation through launch, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery of secure, scalable online payment capabilities.
  • Develop deep understanding of Clover’s target merchant segments (restaurant, retail, services, healthcare) and translate segment-level needs into CNP product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and design teams to define technical requirements and payment API/SDK specifications.
  • Manage semi-annual card brand compliance mandates, PCI requirements, and regional payment and security rules.
  • Drive global CNP expansion planning across international markets, incorporating localized payment methods and regulatory standards.
  • Translate product delivery into measurable revenue growth, high-margin transaction volume, and improved authorization rates.

Go-To-Market

  • Partner closely with product marketing, commercialization, sales channels, and developer relations to train sales teams and educate the market on Clover's CNP capabilities.
  • Collaborate with developer outreach and partner teams to support third-party developers building on Clover e-commerce APIs.

Customer Focus

  • Help conduct in-depth market and user research to understand merchant and consumer pain points and the competitive landscape.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback, operational data, decline rates, fraud rates, and other data to understand opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention by delivering secure, compliant, and reliable payment experiences.

Team & Financial Leadership

  • Foster a culture of data-informed decision-making that is based on the needs of our target merchants and the financial performance goals of the organization.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing team of product managers focused on specific CNP payment product lines and core platforms.
  • Define and track product KPIs spanning CNP processing volume, authorization rates, platform uptime, API adoption, and merchant retention.

What You Will Need to Have:
  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to card-not-present payments, e-commerce, or payment gateway platforms.
  • 5+years of people management experience
  • Deep knowledge of developer APIs, RESTful web services, and mobile SDKs for e-commerce integration.
  • Proven experience with major e-commerce platforms and shopping cart integrations (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento).
  • Thorough understanding of the online payments ecosystem — acquirers, gateways, fraud management, PCI compliance, etc.
  • Familiarity with alternative payment methods, including Pay by Bank, digital wallets, and Buy Now Pay Later solutions.
  • Strong analytical and commercial instincts — comfortable with market sizing, cost-benefit tradeoffs, build/buy/partner decisions, and business case development.
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership; able to align engineering, design, sales, operations, and commercial teams around a shared roadmap.
  • Experience with SMB or merchant-facing products strongly preferred.
  • International product experience (EMEA, APAC, or LATAM) a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or engineering background a plus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
