Director of Operations, Free Ad Supported Television (FAST) Publishing

Position Summary

The Director of Operations, FAST Publishing will oversee the day-to-day operational management of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Free Ad-Supported Television (FAST) publishing business. Reporting to the VP of Business Development, this role will lead all aspects of channel operations — from vendor partnerships and content workflows to internal coordination, communication, and program management — ensuring seamless delivery, scalability, and continuous process optimization.

This role will act as the central operational hub, collaborating closely with Programming, Marketing, Content Preparation, Distribution and Content Services (DCS), global sales teams, and global platform partners to drive the successful execution of FAST channel launches and ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Program Management

  • Lead daily operations across FAST channel publishing, ensuring efficient execution across multiple global markets and partners.
  • Drive the coordination of internal stakeholders (Programming, Marketing, Content Prep, DCS, and Business Development) to maintain workflow alignment.
  • Oversee project planning and management for new channel launches, content refreshes, and technical upgrades.
  • Develop and enforce standardized processes, delivery timelines, and operational best practices across the FAST ecosystem.
  • Track milestones, manage escalations, and ensure timely issue resolution with vendors and partners.

Vendor & Partner Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all operational vendors (e.g., playout, metadata, QA, delivery).
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with content and platform partners, ensuring service reliability and content delivery integrity.
  • Lead vendor evaluation, onboarding, contract negotiation, and renewals to optimize performance and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with platform partners (Samsung TV Plus, Roku, LG Channels, Pluto TV, etc.) to manage ongoing operational requirements and troubleshoot delivery issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the operational conduit between Business Development, global sales teams, and internal groups — Programming, Marketing, Content Prep, DCS, and Finance.
  • Partner with Programming and Content Prep to align delivery schedules and ensure metadata and assets meet technical specifications.
  • Support Marketing with timely asset delivery, channel metadata, and campaign readiness.
  • Collaborate with DCS and technical teams to maintain channel uptime and quality standards.

Budgeting & Financial Oversight

  • Partner with Finance and Procurement to manage vendor budgets, forecast spend, and oversee payment processing.
  • Monitor operational costs, track vendor billing accuracy, and ensure adherence to contractual terms.
  • Provide ongoing reporting and insights to leadership on budget performance, operational KPIs, and HOV metrics.

Process Optimization & Strategic Growth

  • Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and scalability through process automation, documentation, and workflow refinement.
  • Define and track KPIs to assess vendor performance, delivery accuracy, and channel uptime.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline new channel launches and improve partner experience.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives by evaluating new technologies, platforms, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in digital media operations streaming distribution, or FAST publishing.
  • Proven expertise in vendor and partner management, particularly in content delivery and playout workflows.
  • Strong background in project and program management with cross-functional team leadership.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting, and vendor cost tracking.
  • Strategic, detail-oriented mindset with a strong sense of operational discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with international operations and multi-region workflows is a strong plus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
