The Director of Sales will strategize and generate revenue through multichannel advertising and brand partnerships, mentor teams, and manage client relationships.
PlayOn is looking for a highly strategic, growth-minded Director of Sales to generate meaningful multichannel advertising and brand partnerships revenue for MaxPreps and the broader PlayOn portfolio including NFHS and GoFan. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who’s able to build and influence marketplace strategy, manage and mentor sellers, and drive deal flow and pipeline development. Reporting to the SVP, National Sales, this role will operate cross-functionally to re-introduce the MaxPreps brand in-market, educate brands on the power of high school sports, and quickly scale revenue.
The Outcomes You’ll Deliver
- Revenue Generation – Achieve aggressive quarterly and yearly national advertising and brand partnership sales goals for MaxPreps and broader PlayOn portfolio
- Client Penetration & Growth – Build impactful relationships within key holding companies, strategic agencies, and direct clients
- GTM Strategy – Influence and execute the GTM sales approach for key sales regions (e.g. East Coast, Midwest, West Coast, and South – location dependent)
- Creative Ideation – Establish feedback loops and workflows that help MaxPreps and PlayOn build and develop new, creative branded products and offerings
- Talent Development –Mentor and retain a diverse, empowered team of sellersand contributors with a strong culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning
In this Role, You Can Expect To
- Own quarterly and annual team revenue targets in key regions (including personal quotas)
- Lead relationship development with key ad agencies, direct clients, and the entire media buying and planning chain
- Pursue and close challenging and strategic accounts, while negotiating complex deals at top management levels
- Partner with the talent team and senior management to recruit, manage, and empower team of market-specific sellers and contributors tasked with driving direct brand partnerships revenue spanning display, video, social, and content
- Develop and execute creative sales strategies across all platforms to maximize revenue
- Evaluate the performance of advertising sales programs against desired outcomes and provide effective feedback to key internal stakeholders
- Organize and implement market-specific client entertainment initiatives
- Build ongoing feedback and strategy loops with sellers and team contributors, and perform performance reviews
- Serve as the market-specific lead on meticulous Salesforce pipeline reporting
- Communicate and collaborate internally with other departments including Executive Management, Marketing Strategy, Ad Operations, Strategic Planning, and Content / Editorial
To Thrive in this Role, You Have
- Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years multichannel media sales experience
- Existing relationships with holding companies (e.g. Publicis, Dentsu, GroupM, OMG, Havas, IPG, etc.) and direct clients, including C-level contacts
- Demonstrated track record of exceeding revenue targets
- Proven success in acquiring new business and stewarding high-level client and agency relationships that drive revenue growth
- Experience managing teams and/or projects with strong performance and results
- Deep experience with negotiating, structuring, and closing multichannel brand partnerships
- Creative “big picture” mindset and problem-solving attitude that can help influence GTM strategies
- Ability to thrive in multiple sales environments (remote and in-person) and effectively work with others to achieve broader business results
- Organized, strategic thinker who’s able to take concepts to reality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in and enthusiasm for high school and broader sports marketplace
- Understanding of the digital landscape including Display, Video, Audio, Social, Branded Content, Events, Data/Targeting, Ad Measurement, and more
