WE HAVE CREATED A WORLD WHERE ART AND SCIENCE ARE BEST FRIENDS

Known is what happens when a data science firm and a creative agency stop arguing and start collaborating. We were built from scratch with PhD data scientists and award-winning creatives working on the same briefs, from day one. That structure earned us an Ad Age #3 A-List ranking, back-to-back Data & Insights Agency of the Year wins, plus Emmys, Cannes Lions, Clios, and Effies across clients in finance, tech, entertainment, consumer goods, and real estate. We're distributed across the U.S. and unapologetically ambitious.

If you're tired of choosing between doing smart work and doing creative work, you'll fit right in here.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Known’s Media Science team uses advanced analytics, machine learning, statistics, and algorithms to plan and optimize advertising dollars. We partner with our clients to translate their business goals into meaningful metrics, and buy media across all channels to drive those target outcomes.

We are looking for a Director, Media Strategy to join the team and work alongside our data scientists, media buyers, brand strategists and creative leads to help deliver amazing results for our clients. This person will work across an automotive brand, architecting full funnel media from the first impression to test drives and orders. This is a rare chance to run media strategy for a brand people already love, backed by a data science bench that most agencies can’t match.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own full-funnel media architecture for a leading auto client, from upper-funnel brand storytelling through performance and conversion
  • Serve as the senior media strategy contact for the day to day client team
  • Lead cross-functional internal teams across media, brand strategy and analytics, ensuring one strategy and one set of client expectations
  • Identify and pitch media formats and placements that match the brand’s unique positioning, ahead of where the rest of the auto category is looking
  • Stay ahead of media trends and new technology, and bring point-of-view recommendations to the client before they ask
  • Partner with Known's data science team on measurement, attribution, and incrementality testing, so every recommendation holds up under scrutiny
  • Review team output against Known's quality bar before it reaches the client

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE

  • 10+ years of media planning and strategy experience, with a track record of client relationships that grow over time
  • Deep knowledge across paid and emerging media channels, including Connected TV, Partnerships & Experiential and Social
  • Fluency in data, measurement, and attribution
  • An interest in automotive, sustainability or outdoor and adventure culture
  • Experience managing people and scope on complex, multi-workstream accounts
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the presence to hold a room with senior client stakeholders

SOME OF OUR PERKS

  • Unlimited paid time off
  • 401k with company matching and no vesting period
  • Annual bonuses
  • Generous medical plan
  • Paid parental leave

ONE LAST THING TO ASK YOURSELF

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
