The Director, Loss Mitigation Underwriting Operations will be responsible for directing underwriting quality, productivity, regulatory compliance, investor and insurer adherence, operational controls, workforce planning, and continuous improvement. Provides leadership for managers, supervisors, and underwriting staff; establishes performance standards; and ensures timely, accurate, and well-supported borrower eligibility decisions. Leads technology, workflow, reporting, and vendor initiatives that strengthen operational capacity, risk management, customer outcomes, and business performance. Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, investor and insurer requirements, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The target pay for this position is $110,000 -$135,000 plus annual bonus. 


What you'll do:


  • Direct daily Loss Mitigation Underwriting Operations to achieve established service levels, productivity targets, quality standards, and regulatory timelines. 

  • Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company policy, applicable laws and regulations, and investor, agency, and insurer requirements. 

  • Oversee quality control, second-level reviews, exception management, and remediation of underwriting defects or recurring process gaps. 

  • Provide leadership and guidance on complex, escalated, denied, or high-risk underwriting decisions and ensure appropriate documentation and approval. 

  • Lead, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and employees while promoting accountability, engagement, succession readiness, and continuous improvement. 

  • Manage performance through clear expectations, regular feedback, development planning, recognition, and corrective action when necessary. 

  • Lead process improvement, automation, workflow, system enhancement, and operational readiness initiatives affecting Loss Mitigation Underwriting. 

  • Develop project scope, schedules, resource plans, testing requirements, training, implementation controls, and post-launch performance reviews. 

  • Identify operational, compliance, customer, and technology risks and implement effective mitigation, escalation, and remediation plans. 

  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Risk, Audit, Technology, Product, Operations, and other servicing teams to implement regulatory and business requirements. 

  • Develop executive reporting that communicates performance, risks, trends, resource needs, initiative status, and recommended actions. 

  • Ensure policies, procedures, training materials, and department communications accurately reflect approved process, system, and regulatory changes. 

  • Analyze customer, employee, audit, complaint, and industry feedback to identify trends and recommend improvements to underwriting operations. 

  • Support internal audits, external audits, investor reviews, regulatory examinations, and remediation activities related to Loss Mitigation Underwriting. 

  • Perform other duties and lead projects as assigned.

 

What you'll need:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.

  • Seven or more years of progressive mortgage servicing experience, including at least five years in Loss Mitigation, default management, or underwriting operations.

  • Five or more years of leadership experience, including responsibility for supervisors, managers, or multi-level operational teams.

  • Three or more years of experience with Loss Mitigation systems, workflow technology, operational reporting, or related implementations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing underwriting quality, regulatory or investor compliance, operational performance, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
