Root was founded on the belief that car insurance is broken, and we set out to change it. We’re harnessing the power of technology to revolutionize this archaic, complicated industry. Using machine learning and mobile telematic platforms, we’ve built one of the most innovative insurtech companies in the world.

The Opportunity

This role exists to elevate how Root communicates its strategy, performance, and long-term value to the investment community. The Director of Investor Relations will own the day-to-day operating cadence of the IR function while transforming business results into clear, compelling, and high-impact investor communications.

Success in this role requires a passion for investor engagement and the ability to translate complex financial, operational, and product dynamics into a cohesive narrative that resonates across both institutional and retail audiences. This role will partner closely with the Head of IR, PR, and executive leadership to strengthen Root’s positioning as a technology-driven insurance platform and improve how the market understands and evaluates the business.

Salary Range:  $189,400 - $236,700 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering.)

  • Translate Root’s strategy, financial performance, and product evolution into clear, compelling, and consistent external messaging
  • Develop and refine Root’s investor narrative, positioning the company as a technology-driven platform while connecting near-term performance to long-term value creation
  • Lead the creation of high-quality investor-facing materials that drive engagement across institutional and retail audiences
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Product, Data Science, Engineering, Business Development, and Marketing to synthesize insights into investor-ready narratives
  • Support investor and analyst engagement, including preparation, follow-ups, conferences, and ongoing dialogue
  • Prepare the Head of IR and executive team for high-impact interactions, ensuring clarity, consistency, and depth of messaging
  • Anticipate investor questions and pressure-test messaging to ensure credibility in complex discussions
  • Partner closely with Communications and PR to develop a unified external narrative across investors, media, and retail audiences while increasing Root’s visibility and engagement in the market
  • Monitor investor sentiment, peer positioning, and market dynamics to continuously improve how Root is understood and valued
  • Mentor and develop junior IR talent by creating structure, providing feedback, and helping build deeper business and market fluency across the team

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 8+ years of experience in investor relations, strategic communications, financial communications, public markets advisory, or related roles supporting public company narratives and investor engagement
  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
