This is one position, posted in five locations. The selected candidate can be based in our Oakland, Sacramento, Riverside, Fresno, or Los Angeles office.

WHY THIS ROLE, WHY NOW

Individual supporters are the foundation of a durable movement. Whether someone gives monthly or makes a significant annual commitment, every gift reflects the same thing: a belief in the work and a desire to be part of it. The strongest individual giving programs honor that belief. They build lasting relationships, keep supporters close to the work, and help every donor see the change they are making possible.

The Director of Individual Giving leads that work across our full donor base. This role oversees major gifts, annual giving, and events strategy. Raising funds across our C3, C4, and PAC entities, the Director shapes a strategy that grows individual revenue, keeps donors for the long term, and connects every supporter to bold climate and justice work. If you are a strategic fundraiser and team leader who wants your work to fuel real political power, we want to hear from you.

WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DISTINCTIVE

  • Four-day work week for most of the year, with five-day weeks during peak periods.
  • Leadership of a full individual giving program, from small-dollar recurring donations to major gifts, across C3, C4, and PAC fundraising.
  • The chance to build a planned giving program from the start and shape its long-term strategy.
  • A leadership seat on the Philanthropy Team, working closely with the VP of Philanthropy on overall strategy and board fundraising.
  • Work that matters: every donor you bring in fuels voter organizing, electing climate champions, and bold climate policy.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, and dental coverage, 401(k) with employer match, 12 days PTO, 12 holidays, a year-end office closure between Christmas and New Year, and additional benefits that support employee well-being and work-life balance.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a senior leader on the Philanthropy Team, the Director of Individual Giving reports to the Vice President of Philanthropy and is accountable for meeting annual individual giving revenue goals. The Director manages the Deputy Director of Major Gifts, the Development Associate, and part-time Fundraising Callers, building a team culture rooted in donor-centered care, collaboration, and growth. The role works closely with the VP of Philanthropy on fundraising strategy and with the communications team on online and direct mail campaigns. It also leads the design and launch of a revamped planned giving program. The Director sets goals, tracks performance, and uses donor data to guide decisions so the program becomes more effective every year.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
