About Manifest

At Manifest, we’re using AI to rethink how small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) gain the expertise and support to start and grow their businesses. As an AI business companion and staff training platform, we’re dedicated to empowering the backbone of the American workforce—small business owners and their teams. As a seed-stage company, we're searching for a strategic and execution-driven Director of Growth to lead our go-to-market (GTM) strategy and expansion into new verticals.

About the Role

As Manifest’s first dedicated growth leader, you will own and drive the strategy for launching a new vertical from 0 to 1 and scaling our existing customer base. Reporting directly to CEO Sarah Horn, you will shape our brand positioning, messaging, and customer acquisition strategy. This role is ideal for a leader who understands how to define a market, find the ideal customer, and package and sell a product effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Go-To-Market & Growth Strategy:

  • Develop and lead the GTM strategy for launching and scaling new verticals.

  • Identify and segment target audiences within SMBs, ensuring strong brand positioning.

  • Define and execute customer acquisition strategies, including partnerships, demand generation, and brand marketing.

  • Oversee brand messaging, positioning, and packaging to maximize resonance with SMBs.

  • Work cross-functionally to align product, marketing, and sales on growth initiatives.

  • Set clear, data-driven goals for growth initiatives, ensuring all strategies align with available budget and business objectives.

  • Establish and refine measurement frameworks to track performance and optimize ROI on marketing spend.

Scaling from 0 to 1:

  • Develop and execute strategies for launching a new vertical from scratch including: supporting research, solution development and content strategy.

  • Collaborate with SMEs, product and sales teams to refine offerings and GTM execution.

  • Determine the most effective channels and tactics for reaching and converting SMBs.

  • Set up measurement frameworks and iterate based on early traction and feedback.

Strategic Leadership & Execution:

  • Own growth strategy, with a strong focus on execution—leading a team of contractors and vendors to drive marketing initiatives.

  • Hands-on execution is a bonus, but the key is ensuring that growth efforts are well-resourced and effectively managed.

  • Define key growth levers and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.

  • Drive brand-led growth and ensure our value proposition resonates with SMBs.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in growth, go-to-market strategy, or product-led growth.

  • Proven 0-to-1 growth expertise, ideally launching a new product or vertical.

  • Experience in B2C or consumer-focused growth, particularly targeting SMBs.

  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration experience.

  • A strategic mindset—able to define, execute, and iterate a GTM strategy.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking ownership in a fast-moving startup environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience leading growth at a startup or in a fast-scaling company.

  • Background in B2C, SMB SaaS, or consumer-oriented growth.

  • Experience managing marketing agencies, vendors, or small teams.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
