Director, Email Deliverability

Postscript is the AI messaging platform trusted by 20,000+ Shopify brands — including Brooklinen, Ruggable, True Classic, and Dr. Squatch.

We built the best-in-class SMS marketing platform and the revenue-driving AI features no other platform offers — and now we're bringing that same obsession to email. As we expand into a true multi-channel platform for high-growth DTC brands, getting every message to the inbox is mission-critical.

Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, fully remote since 2018.

Job Description

As the Director, Email Deliverability at Postscript, you'll own the strategy, infrastructure, and sender reputation that get our customers' email to the primary inbox. This is a foundational, hands-on leadership role: you'll build Postscript's email deliverability function from the ground up — IP and domain architecture, authentication standards, reputation monitoring, and mailbox-provider relationships — while serving as the trusted deliverability advisor our brands rely on as they migrate and scale their email programs on Postscript.

You'll partner closely with Product and Engineering to shape the deliverability tooling and infrastructure our platform is built on, and with Customer Success and Support to keep our customers' programs healthy. You'll set the standard for how 20,000+ brands reach the inbox — and as the function grows, you'll build and lead the team behind it.

This is a fully remote position and can be based in the US or Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Deliverability Strategy & Sender Reputation

  • Own Postscript's end-to-end email deliverability strategy — IP pool architecture, domain strategy, and shared vs. dedicated sending models.
  • Design and manage IP and domain warming programs that get new senders to volume quickly and safely.
  • Establish and enforce authentication standards (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI) and DMARC alignment across customer sending domains.
  • Monitor sender reputation, inbox placement, and blocklist activity, and lead rapid remediation when issues arise.
  • Keep Postscript ahead of evolving mailbox-provider requirements — Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft bulk-sender rules, spam-rate thresholds, and one-click unsubscribe.

Customer Deliverability & Advisory

  • Serve as the senior deliverability expert for our brands — auditing programs, diagnosing inbox-placement issues, and building remediation plans.
  • Lead deliverability onboarding for brands migrating their email to Postscript, including reputation transfer and warming strategy.
  • Translate complex deliverability concepts into clear, actionable guidance that marketers can act on.
  • Own escalations, partnering with customers to protect and grow their inbox placement and sending reputation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Foundation-Building

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to build the deliverability tooling, monitoring, and infrastructure that power the platform — and influence the roadmap with deliverability requirements.
  • Build the playbooks, processes, and standards that scale deliverability across thousands of senders.
  • Establish feedback loops (FBLs), Postmaster Tools, and reporting that give customers and internal teams visibility into deliverability health.
  • As the function matures, hire, mentor, and lead a team of deliverability specialists.

Industry Expertise & Compliance

  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of the deliverability landscape and represent Postscript in the broader community (e.g., M3AAWG, emailgeeks).
  • Build and steward relationships with mailbox providers and industry partners.
  • Ensure Postscript's sending practices and customer programs stay compliant with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and mailbox-provider policies.
  • Leverage AI tools and internal systems to scale deliverability monitoring, diagnostics, and customer guidance.
What We'll Love About You
  • 8+ years of dedicated email deliverability experience, ideally at an ESP, CDP, or high-volume sending platform (e.g., SendGrid/Twilio, Attentive, Braze, Klaviyo, Iterable, Validity/Return Path).
  • Deep technical command of email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI), IP and domain warming, sender reputation, and feedback loops.
  • Hands-on experience owning deliverability for bulk/high-volume senders, including diagnosing and remediating blocklistings and inbox-placement problems.
  • Fluency with Google Postmaster Tools, Yahoo Sender Hub, and the 2024+ Gmail/Yahoo/Microsoft bulk-sender requirements.
  • Existing relationships with mailbox providers and/or active participation in the deliverability community (M3AAWG, emailgeeks, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • A consultant's instinct — you can translate deep technical detail into strategy that non-technical marketers understand and act on.
  • Player-coach mindset: happy to do the hands-on work today and build the playbooks (and eventually the team) for tomorrow.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce/DTC brands and how email drives revenue (e-commerce experience strongly preferred).
  • Comfortable building from scratch in a fast-paced, early-stage environment, with a growth mindset toward AI and emerging tooling.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with high reliability and outstanding follow-through.
What You'll Love About Us
  • The chance to build a function from the ground floor and define how 20,000+ brands reach the inbox.
  • High-growth startup environment with opportunities to make a meaningful impact and grow your career.
  • Fully remote work culture – work from anywhere.
  • Fun, collaborative team passionate about e-commerce and innovation.
  • Flexible paid time off to recharge and prioritize your well-being.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision insurance.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
