Job Description:

Johnson and Johnson Electrophysiology is seeking a Director of Catheter Development for HTI to join the team in Irvine, CA.

The Director of Catheter Development for HTI is directly accountable for the rapid prototyping of catheters to disrupt existing market tech in Electrophysiology. They will be responsible for establishing objectives for Catheter development as a strategic focus area within the Haifa Tech Incubator.  This role reports directly to the VP HTI for EP & Venture Investments JJDC and interacts with other executive level management to set and implement business strategies.  This position will interface with other functions as needed, especially post-first in human trials to ensure transfer of knowledge and expertise of proto-type technology to assure all internal operations of the company comply with applicable regulatory requirements 

  • Create vision and execute front-end innovation strategy aligned with company goals for Catheter / Disposables
  • Lead development of long range next-gen catheter technology in Electrophysiology (7–10-year horizon)
  • Deliver transformative and tested catheter innovations to the organization 
  • Reimagine, discover, invent and disrupt current catheter offerings in the EP space
  • Identify and develop new concepts and catheter prototypes to support future alternate revenue streams 
  • Develop and lead next-gen tech catheter developments – acting as an incubator, hosting early-stage investigatory projects up to and including First in Human – then transfer to R&D for continued development
  • Develop proto-types that will eventually be compatible for across technology programs – such as consumables, hardware, software and systems

Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision Development & Leadership

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision and roadmap for harnessing innovative front-end Catheter architecture / technologies and development process to disrupt the Catheter market and create value over the long term
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in front-end catheter development 

Innovative Concept Validation

  • Lead the ideation and validation process for new concepts and technologies in catheter development, utilizing design thinking methodologies and other innovative frameworks
  • Collaborate with universities, research institutions, and startups to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and understand their potential impact

Product Design & Prototyping of Catheters

  • Architect and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable front-end solutions 
  • Lead the development of early stage or front-end innovations
  • Participate in the product design process requirements
  • Ensure the user experience is consistent and intuitive across all platforms 
  • Drive the development of innovative and engaging user interfaces through prototype for pre-clinical testing up to First In Human
  • Oversee transparent and timely knowledge transfer process to development teams

Team Leadership of Catheter Team

  • Recruit, build and manage an agile team dedicated to exploring future technologies and driving innovation projects from concept to pre-clinical testing
  • Encourage a culture of creativity, experimentation, and collaboration within the team
  • Lead, mentor and inspire a team of front-end engineers and designers 
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment 
  • Ensure team have resources and support required to thrive and deliver 

Qualifications:

Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical/ Biomedical or a related technical/ Engineering field

Other: Master’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline is preferred

Required Years of Related Experience:      

  • Director-level experience leading an R&D or Operations group through successful product launches
  • Minimum of 10 years’ of demonstrated leadership in the medical technology industry or a directly related field
  • Knowledge or prior experience in Electrophysiology field is highly preferred
  • Knowledge or experience in electromagnetically navigated device development is a plus
  • The ability to interpret an extensive variety of abstract and concrete concepts and synthesize them into technical solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Strong and proven people management skills
  • 25% Travel requirement, domestically and internationally

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. ·

    • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$160,000 to $240,000
