About the Job:

The Director, System Integration and AI Analytics, will define and lead Pacsun's enterprise strategy for AI Analytics, Business Reporting, Data Model and Data Warehouse, and System Integration. This role owns the roadmap for embedding machine learning, generative AI, and predictive/prescriptive AI analytics into retail operations, merchandising, and customer experience, while ensuring the underlying data and integration architecture can support it at scale. The Director partners with the technical and cross-functional executives to prioritize AI investments, governs responsible and secure use of AI across the business, and leads a team of engineers, analysts, and integration specialists. This position requires hands-on depth in AI/ML platforms, Snowflake, Microstrategy, and enterprise integration technology (Mulesoft), along with the judgment to translate emerging AI capabilities into measurable retail impact.

A day in the life, what you’ll be doing:

    • Own Pacsun's AI analytics and business reporting roadmap, prioritizing use cases by business value, feasibility, and ROI in partnership with executive stakeholders.
    • Prepare and govern the enterprise data landscape for AI use cases, including data readiness for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), feature engineering, model training pipelines, and vector data stores.
    • Establish and enforce responsible AI practices, including model risk review, bias and accuracy monitoring, data privacy, and compliance with emerging AI regulations and internal governance standards.
    • Direct the design, development, and maintenance of scalable enterprise Business Intelligence and system integration solutions that support AI-driven decision-making.
    • Oversee integrations across key enterprise systems — Microsoft D365, Manhattan OMS, Manhattan POS, EDI, and Mulesoft — ensuring the integration layer can reliably feed AI and analytics workloads.
    • Own the Snowflake data platform and Microstrategy BI environment, ensuring performance, scalability, and governance as AI adoption grows.
    • Partner with cross-functional leaders to align AI, data, and integration strategy with Pacsun's next ERP and Financial System transformation.
    • Evaluate and manage third-party AI tools and vendor partnerships, ensuring solutions meet security, data governance, and integration standards.
    • Create and maintain data and AI architecture documentation, including model inventories, data flow diagrams, and governance frameworks.
    • Lead ETL/ELT and OLAP development to ensure efficient, trustworthy data pipelines feeding both traditional BI and AI/ML systems.
    • Act as the primary liaison between IT, data science, and business stakeholders to prioritize AI and data-related initiatives.
    • Track emerging AI technologies and retail industry trends, recommending where new capabilities can create competitive advantage.
    • Mentor and manage a team of BI developers, analysts, and integration engineers, building AI and data fluency across the team.

    What it takes to Join:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, BI, and analytics, including at least 5 years applying AI/ML in a leadership role.
    • Mandatory retail industry experience.
    • Hands-on experience deploying machine learning and generative AI solutions in a production enterprise environment, including MLOps practices.
    • Expert-level proficiency in Microstrategy and hands-on experience with Snowflake.
    • Working knowledge of AI governance, responsible AI practices, and data privacy/regulatory considerations relevant to AI systems.
    • Proven track record of delivering enterprise-wide data and AI architecture solutions focused on retail analytics and innovation.
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and transformations, including ERP and financial systems.

    Developing the Community/ Leadership Qualities:

    • Operate with the highest level of conduct, integrity, and confidentiality; setting the example for leaders and associates.
    • Develop and nurture strong cross functional partnerships; driving business results and inspiring a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability.
    • Serve as a Pacsun advocate in the industry and marketplace.
    • Recruit, identify, develop, and retain talent that delivers performance excellence.
    • As a manager, serve as a leader of company culture, norms, and conduct.
    • Ability to balance a strong management presence with a high level of approachability, encouraging and eliciting associate feedback and interaction.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

    • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
    • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
    • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
    • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
    • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
    • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
