We are seeking a Director to join our growing tax team and lead global income tax accounting (ASC 740), corporate income tax compliance, and forecasting. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the global tax strategy of a high-growth, asset-intensive, public technology company delivering infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS). The role will be instrumental in driving timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, and insight across our income tax lifecycle while partnering cross-functionally with key stakeholders in Finance, Legal, and Accounting.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a tax function that spans complex international structures, capital-intensive deployments, and rapidly evolving regulatory environments.

Role Summary

You will own the quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision process, manage U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance, and lead tax forecasting and planning activities. You will be responsible for interpreting tax technical issues, identifying risks and opportunities, supporting cross-border tax operations, and helping drive strategic decisions — including those involving M&A and transfer pricing. Success in this role requires strong technical tax expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and an aptitude for process improvement in a fast-paced public company environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions (FIN 48), and effective tax rate analysis.
  • Oversee corporate income tax compliance for U.S. federal and state jurisdictions, coordinating with external tax advisors as needed.
  • Develop and manage forecasting for tax expense and cash taxes, collaborating with FP&A and other finance teams.
Support M&A activities, including tax due diligence, structuring, and post-acquisition integration.
Monitor changes in tax law and regulations, assess business impact, and advise on necessary adjustments to strategy or reporting.
  • Evaluate and support transfer pricing policies, intercompany arrangements, and global tax documentation requirements.
  • Evaluate and support international tax planning strategies.
  • Partner cross-functionally to analyze the tax implications of contracts, financing, asset deployments, and strategic transactions.
  • Collaborate with Accounting and Legal on tax-related disclosures in public filings (10-Q, 10-K).
  • Manage responses to tax audits and inquiries from federal and state authorities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation using tax technology tools.
  • Serve as a key tax resource to the broader business, translating complex technical guidance into actionable insights.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
