Director (AGC), Workforce Integrity & Marketplace Compliance Overview

Snorkel is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Director (AGC), Workforce Integrity & Marketplace Compliance. Reporting to Snorkel’s General Counsel, this role will lead employment, labor, and marketplace compliance strategy across a fast-moving, technology-driven business.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in traditional employment law and independent contractor models, along with experience counseling product and business teams in startup environments. This person will partner closely with Product, Operations, People, Policy, Trust & Safety, and leadership to navigate workforce and marketplace risk while enabling growth.

We’re looking for a pragmatic, business-oriented attorney who exercises strong judgment, communicates clearly, and balances legal risk with operational realities.

ResponsibilitiesEmployment & Workforce Counseling
  • Advise on employment law matters, including employee relations, performance management, accommodations, investigations, wage and hour, and terminations.
  • Counsel People and leadership teams on workforce strategy, organizational risk, and compliance.
  • Provide practical guidance on federal, state, and local employment laws.
Marketplace & Workforce Integrity
  • Lead legal strategy related to independent contractor classification and marketplace workforce models.
  • Advise on marketplace products, onboarding flows, incentives, and contractor programs.
  • Assess regulatory and litigation risks tied to platform-based labor models.
  • Build scalable governance frameworks that support growth while mitigating workforce risk.
Product & Business Counseling
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Policy, and Trust & Safety teams on product development and operational initiatives.
  • Translate legal requirements into practical business guidance.
  • Help leadership evaluate tradeoffs between growth, user experience, operational efficiency, and legal exposure.
  • Deliver risk-based, solutions-oriented recommendations in fast-moving environments.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Monitor employment and marketplace regulatory developments and advise on business impact.
  • Support investigations, audits, disputes, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Develop policies, trainings, escalation procedures, and compliance controls.
  • Partner with outside counsel on employment and marketplace matters as needed.
QualificationsRequired
  • J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 10+ years of experience in employment law, labor issues, and/or marketplace counseling.
  • Deep expertise in independent contractor classification and marketplace workforce models.
  • Experience counseling product and business teams in startup or high-growth technology companies.
  • Strong understanding of traditional employment law and employee relations.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to balance legal risk with business priorities.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional partnership skills.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting marketplace, gig economy, or platform businesses.
  • In-house experience at a technology or startup company.
  • Familiarity with global workforce compliance issues.
  • Experience building scalable compliance programs.
