What You'll Do
Dimensional Management
- Lead dimensional integration, technical reviews, risk assessments, and GD&T activities for body structures, exteriors, and closures from concept through launch.
- Define dimensional requirements for purchased components and assemblies and document them in program Statements of Requirements (SORs).
- Develop and coordinate variation and sag analyses using 3DCS, VISVSA, RSS, SimSolid, or comparable tools.
- Support supplier reviews, matching events, gage reviews, vehicle builds, launch activities, and structured issue-resolution events.
- Serve as a GD&T and dimensional-systems subject-matter expert while mentoring engineering, manufacturing, quality, plant, and suppliers.
- Establish and deploy global dimensional standards, strategies, training, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Collaborate with dimensional quality, design release, product design, manufacturing engineering, supplier quality, plant quality, program, and supplier teams to deliver robust dimensional solutions.
Innovation and Digital Transformation
- Explore and apply AI, Python, Vibe Coding and PMI x Parametric Design x Data loop Integration for Body Metrics.
- Develop new methods, processes, and integrations where none currently exist.
- Convert ideas into actionable projects that make dimensional engineering faster and more effective.
- Support the use of AI and digital capabilities to improve dimensional analysis, simulation, decision-making, and process execution.
Warranty, Launch, and Automation Engagement
- Partner with Warranty teams to identify, analyze, and resolve potential dimensional issues and prevent recurrence in future programs.
- Engage with launch teams to lead dimensional issue resolution affecting quality metrics by identifying root causes, contributors, and corrective actions through data-driven analysis.
- Lead automation initiatives by evaluating equipment capability, datum structures, design enablers, process robustness, and potential trade-offs.
- Identify and implement efficient, repeatable, and scalable dimensional processes.
Program Execution
- Coach, guide, and coordinate program execution across internal teams and external resources.
- Lead through influence across Studio, Manufacturing, Design Release, Engineering, Quality, Program, and the supply base.
- Drive alignment, accountability, and timely execution of dimensional deliverables throughout the program lifecycle.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Curious, innovative, and continuous-improvement mindset to dimensional engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in dimensional engineering, product design/release, manufacturing engineering, supplier engineering, quality, or metrology.
- Proficiency in GD&T, ASME Y14.5, tolerance allocation, datum structures, and dimensional variation management.
- Experience with body structures, exteriors, closures, complex assemblies, automotive launches, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Measurement Systems (CMM, Scanning), MSA and SPC.
- Understanding of system- and subsystem-level dimensional requirements.
- Experience with Unigraphics (UG)/NX PMI and Parametric Design, VISVSA, 3DCS, SimSolid, and Teamcenter Visualization Mockup.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, make technical decisions, and influence cross-functional organizations without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical information to engineering, manufacturing, quality, program, plant, and supplier teams.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with changing program priorities.
- Demonstrated curiosity with AI, Python, automation, PolyWorks DataLoop, or PMI integration.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- DFSS Green Belt certification or equivalent experience applying DFSS methods.
- Understanding of Red X process fundamentals.
- Experience developing or deploying dimensional-system standards, training, global methods, and lessons learned.
- Experience supporting supplier technical reviews, matching events, prototype builds, validation builds, launch activities, and production issue resolution.
- Experience working across global vehicle programs or within a matrixed automotive engineering organization.
