Job Description

The Core Engineering & Platform (CEP) provides a transformative platform ecosystem that empowers end users and digital product teams to innovate seamlessly and support Allstate’s Consumer Connected Cloud mission. The ecosystem is designed to create a frictionless experience for its user community.
As the Digital Product Manager Expert for a defined area of the enterprise Infrastructure as Code and Engineering as Code product, you will translate the broader product vision into a focused strategy, roadmap, prioritized capabilities and measurable outcomes. You will improve how infrastructure is created, changed, secured, operated and recovered by replacing manual and inconsistent work with reusable, tested and supported product capabilities.
You will work across infrastructure engineering, platform teams, operations, architecture, security and internal customers. The role requires sufficient technical fluency in cloud, infrastructure automation and modern engineering practices to evaluate options, make informed trade-offs, sequence work and guide delivery without acting as the hands-on engineering owner.
Success will be measured through practical improvements in infrastructure delivery, including fewer manual hand-offs, greater reuse of approved components, more consistent application of controls, simpler customer experiences, stronger recovery capabilities and increased adoption of code-driven engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Own and communicate the product strategy, vision and roadmap for a defined Infrastructure as Code and Engineering as Code product area, aligned with enterprise platform, security and customer priorities.
  • Translate customer and engineering problems into prioritized capabilities, epics, user stories and acceptance criteria; author, test and accept stories across multiple Agile release cycles.
  • Lead discovery and test-and-learn activity with infrastructure engineers, platform teams, operations, architects, security partners and internal customers to validate assumptions and product direction.
  • Prioritize reusable, tested and supported capabilities that reduce manual hand-offs and inconsistency across infrastructure creation, change, security, operations and recovery.
  • Partner with engineering to assess and sequence solutions involving Terraform or OpenTofu, Ansible, source control, automated testing, delivery pipelines, configuration management and reusable infrastructure components.
  • Define and monitor product performance measures, including adoption, component reuse, delivery lead time, manual intervention, policy or control compliance, reliability and recovery outcomes.
  • Use customer insight, analytics, technical constraints and enterprise value to make transparent product trade-offs and guide incremental releases.
  • Drive adoption across teams with different levels of engineering maturity through clear onboarding, documentation, demonstrations, feedback loops and continuous product improvement.
  • Influence product, engineering and platform stakeholders across geographically distributed teams, and coach less-experienced product management colleagues.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in digital product management, including independent ownership and execution of product strategy and roadmaps across multiple release cycles.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience coaching or mentoring product management colleagues and contributing expertise across a broader technology organization.
  • Demonstrable product experience in infrastructure, cloud, compute, platform engineering or Platform as a Service
  • Demonstrable knowledge of infrastructure automation and engineering practices, evidenced by product delivery involving Terraform or OpenTofu, Ansible, source control, automated testing, CI/CD or delivery pipelines, configuration management, or reusable infrastructure components.
  • Proven delivery across multiple Agile release cycles, with hands-on use of Jira, Azure DevOps or an equivalent tool to manage backlogs, prioritization, dependencies and delivery tracking.
  • Evidence of defining user stories and acceptance criteria, guiding technical trade-offs and partnering with infrastructure, platform, operations, architecture or security teams.
  • Proven use of product metrics and analytics to prioritize and improve products, with examples of tracking adoption, reuse, lead time, automation, reliability, control compliance or customer experience outcomes.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience managing an Infrastructure as Code, Engineering as Code, developer platform or internal platform product in a large enterprise environment.
  • Experience improving developer or infrastructure customer journeys through self-service workflows, reusable modules, policy-as-code, automated controls or platform APIs.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and infrastructure lifecycle practices, including resilience, disaster recovery, observability, security or compliance requirements.
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry or delivering enterprise-scale software and platform solutions in a regulated environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
