The Digital Advertising Manager will lead the strategy, execution, and optimization of digital advertising campaigns across Moonshot's U.S. Online Violence Prevention portfolio. This role combines hands-on digital advertising expertise with strategic campaign oversight, budget management, creative innovation, and technical leadership. Unlike traditional commercial advertising, our campaigns seek to influence awareness, attitudes, and behaviors, including encouraging help-seeking and building resilience to harmful narratives. The successful candidate must understand how to adapt digital marketing strategies, audience engagement approaches, and performance measurement to these objectives, rather than relying solely on traditional conversion metrics.

A key priority is advancing Moonshot's digital campaigning capabilities to incorporate more engaging and innovative approaches, including video, visual storytelling, creator and influencer partnerships, emerging technologies, and other creative formats. Reporting to a Senior Manager, this role will provide project direction to junior campaign managers and serve as the team's primary technical resource, offering hands-on troubleshooting, training, and coaching to strengthen the team's advertising capabilities.

Candidates must be based in MA, CO, NY, VA, GA, PA, MD, WI, TN, TX, OR, NJ, or DC. Occasional travel may be required.

Your responsibilities will include:

Digital Advertising Strategy & Campaign Delivery

  • Lead digital advertising strategy across multiple prevention campaigns, translating intervention objectives into effective audience targeting, channel selection, creative approaches, and campaign plans.
  • Oversee the full campaign lifecycle, from creative development and setup through launch, optimization, and reporting, providing hands-on technical expertise and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Manage advertising budgets across campaigns and platforms, including allocation, pacing, forecasting, and expenditure tracking.
  • Analyze advertising performance and cost-effectiveness, using findings to improve engagement, conversions, targeting, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain relationships with advertising platforms and vendors, staying current on platform capabilities, policies, and emerging practices.

Creative Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead the evolution of Moonshot's digital advertising approaches, expanding beyond predominantly text-based advertising through video, visual storytelling, interactive content, creator and influencer partnerships, and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and test innovative creative formats and audience engagement strategies, using experimentation and performance data to identify and scale effective approaches.
  • Explore emerging technologies and changes in digital discovery, including AI-enabled creative tools and generative engine optimization (GEO).

Technical Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide project direction and technical oversight to junior campaign managers and analysts, ensuring effective day-to-day delivery.
  • Serve as the team's primary technical resource, providing hands-on troubleshooting, training, and coaching to develop colleagues' advertising capabilities.
  • Establish technical standards, quality assurance procedures, and best practices that support consistent, high-quality campaign execution.

Measurement, Insights & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead advertising performance measurement and reporting, establishing meaningful indicators of reach, engagement, conversions, and cost-effectiveness appropriate to campaign objectives.
  • Work with intervention design and evaluation colleagues to ensure advertising metrics contribute to understanding broader prevention outcomes, rather than relying solely on traditional commercial conversion measures.
  • Translate campaign findings into recommendations for improvement, strengthening reporting practices, technical processes, and future campaign methodologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Client Engagement

  • Collaborate with intervention specialists, project managers, Product & Engineering colleagues, and external partners to ensure digital strategies support evidence-informed prevention objectives.
  • Brief clients, partners, and funders on advertising strategies, performance, findings, and recommendations, translating technical information into actionable insights.
  • Contribute digital advertising expertise to proposals, project scoping, budgets, and business development opportunities.

Quality Assurance & Ethical Delivery

  • Ensure campaigns meet high standards of technical quality, accuracy, platform compliance, and responsible advertising practice.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, technical, reputational, and safeguarding risks, ensuring alignment with Moonshot's ethical standards and applicable privacy requirements.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and optimizing digital advertising campaigns, including strategic responsibility for multiple campaigns and advertising budgets.
  • Hands-on expertise with major digital advertising platforms, including campaign setup, troubleshooting, optimization, audience targeting, A/B testing, and performance measurement.
  • Experience with non-commercial campaigns, such as strategic communications, public health, or social impact, or demonstrated ability to adapt commercial digital advertising approaches to awareness, behavior change, and other non-transactional objectives.
  • Experience developing innovative advertising strategies, creative formats, and audience engagement approaches, using performance data to inform improvements.
  • Strong analytical, budgeting, and project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and optimize advertising expenditure.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, coaching, or training to colleagues, particularly less experienced campaign staff.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the US, and will be required to undertake and pass any relevant security clearance procedures per client needs.

Desirable:

  • Experience with video advertising, visual storytelling, creator or influencer marketing, interactive content, or other innovative digital engagement formats.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled creative technologies, generative engine optimization (GEO), or emerging digital discovery approaches.
  • Experience working in a digital marketing agency, consultancy, or other multi-client environment.
  • Knowledge of targeted violence prevention, P/CVE, online harms, or related fields.
  • Experience developing standardized advertising processes, training resources, or technical quality assurance frameworks.

Benefits
  • 15 days paid vacation leave, plus Federal holidays and 1 day additional paid leave for Native American Heritage Day.
  • Flexible public holiday policy with the option to work federal holidays in exchange for a day off at another time.
  • Full private healthcare package, including coverage for partners and children.
  • Dental & Vision Insurance.
  • Life & Disability Insurance.
  • 24/7 access to free counseling via our Employee Assistance Program.
  • 3% matched 401k contributions.
  • 401(k) Roth Contributions.
  • Generous maternity and paternity leave: 26 weeks paid maternity leave, 8 weeks paid paternity leave.
  • All permanent employees are granted share options upon employment.

Salary: $97,650 - $115,500 (depending on skills and experience).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
