Description

About the Role

We are looking for a self-driven DevOps Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes ownership of infrastructure, automation, and deployment pipelines. You are someone who can independently diagnose and solve complex problems and who consistently brings new ideas to improve how we build and ship software. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD workflows, and developer tooling — working across the full stack of systems that keep our platform running reliably and efficiently.

What is your mission?

As a DevOps Engineer, you will design, provision, and maintain our AWS infrastructure, working with services such as VPC, EC2, CloudFront, Lambda, and S3. You will build and manage CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and GitLab CI to support fast, reliable software delivery, and you will maintain our infrastructure as code using Terraform. You will automate operational tasks with Bash and develop Node.js tooling to support build processes, including NPM-based application builds and deployments. You will define effective Git workflows and branching strategies, monitor infrastructure health, respond to incidents, and work closely with engineers to remove bottlenecks. You will also continually research and introduce tools, practices, and improvements that enhance reliability, security, and the overall developer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and troubleshoot Ubuntu/Debian systems, including service configuration and performance tuning.
  • Apply strong networking fundamentals across Linux and AWS environments.
  • Build and maintain AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, S3, CloudFront, Lambda).
  • Implement secure networking, access controls, and lifecycle policies in AWS.
  • Write and maintain Terraform for infrastructure‑as‑code.
  • Automate operational tasks with Bash and support build tooling with Node.js.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab CI, enforcing best practices for artifacts, secrets, and deployments.
  • Define and maintain effective Git branching strategies.
  • Own problems end‑to‑end, from investigation to resolution.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate with engineering teams to improve reliability and developer experience.
  • Proactively introduce tools, improvements, and best practices to evolve DevOps operations.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
