It’s rare that a new asset class is born. Nevertheless, we’re witnessing exactly that with the rise of crypto. Over just the last few years, crypto has evolved from an embryonic $50B market to a growing $3T+ juggernaut. At Bitwise, we believe that crypto has reached a turning point, and is headed north of $10T over the next few years.

This is an exciting moment for Bitwise as a firm. For seven years, we have established a track record of excellence managing a broad suite of index and active solutions across ETFs, separately managed accounts, private funds, staking solutions, and hedge fund strategies. This year, we crossed $12B in client assets and are growing quickly. Thousands of financial advisors, family offices, and institutional investors partner with Bitwise to understand and access the opportunities in crypto. We are known for providing unparalleled client support through expert research and commentary, a nationwide client team of crypto specialists, and deep access to the crypto ecosystem.

Currently, Bitwise is a close-knit team of 90+ professionals. Think of us as a mix of an asset manager and a tech start-up. We’re backed by some of the most accomplished investors in venture capital and veterans of the financial services world. We love working together, we love what we do, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

We’re looking for an exceptional individual to join our Engineering team and take on important responsibilities to help Bitwise scale. You will play a key role in the development and execution of Bitwise’s web experiences. There will be a lot to learn, a huge impact to be had, and some lifelong relationships to be built along the way.

What You Will Do

  • Design and code web experiences with thoughtful details and intentional user experiences.
  • Manage your individual workflow and advocate for your own projects. You should be able to collaborate on shared goals while owning and driving forward individual projects.
  • Collaborate with different teams to support building solutions that improve both our external user and internal team experiences.
  • Play a pivotal role in making technical decisions, help define Bitwise’s engineering standards, and determine best practices. We are always looking to innovate and willing to explore new technologies and tools.
  • Continuous self education on the newest front end & design tools, trends, and practices.
  • You will have the opportunity to spend time learning about crypto and building expertise in a rapidly changing and growing industry.

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of experience designing and building high-quality web experiences.
  • Skills and understanding of design principles (typography, layout, and color).
  • Technically skilled, experience with web and application development, and excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong understanding of React frameworks like Next.js, CMS platforms like DatoCMS, analytics platforms like Mixpanel, and design tools like Figma.
  • You move fast - with a bias for impact - and don’t shy away from advocating for your work.
  • You are a good communicator, both written and verbal, and can convey details with clarity and coherence.
  • You have a strong sense of ownership. You’re excited to lead projects, aligning stake-holders to a common goal, and driving to a finished output.
  • The idea of being early on a small team where things change rapidly and everyone pitches in excites you.
  • Though not needing to be an expert, you’re interested in learning about crypto and investments and enthusiastic about making it part of your career.

What We Offer

  • Compensation: $150,000 - $170,000 salary + equity
  • Equity compensation as a component of all offers
  • Health insurance, including dental and vision plans
  • Health, Dependent Care and Commuter Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Life insurance; short- and long-term disability plans

  • Unlimited PTO10 paid company-wide holidays
  • Office spaces in San Francisco and New York
  • Meals and snacks provided in office
  • Paid company cell phone or stipend
  • Bitwise “Buddy” Program (30-day new-hire success program)
  • Annual birthday and anniversary gifts
  • Company-wide events including annual holiday partyInternal

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
