The Product Design team is a small but influential team that steers the future of the core Snapchat application. Our Design Engineers work closely with the CEO and various cross functional leaders to create a design led roadmap to build products and experiences that bring our community together in new and special ways.

We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join the Design team at Snap Inc!  

What you’ll do:

  • Conceive, prototype, and iterate new products

  • Quickly bring new ideas to life through functional prototypes

  • Build creative tooling and internal systems that change and improve how teams across Snap work

  • Occasionally prototype on other platforms, including web, AR, and AI

  • Help drive the design process with engineering teams to ship these new products to users

  • Invent new products by leveraging your technical background and passion for design

  • Deliver outsized impact on products used by hundreds of millions of people every day

  • Learn new skills and collaborate within a multi-functional design studio

  • Work with product designers and user researchers to test new ideas and iterate on feedback

  • Present and pitch your ideas and work directly to the CEO and company leadership

  • Be a lead in cross-functional teams with product managers and engineering to polish and refine the end products we ship

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of iOS software engineering principles

  • Ability to know when it’s fine to abandon first principles for a quick proof-of-concept

  • Ability to rapidly prototype fully functional mobile experiences

  • Ability to think at a high level about product strategy

  • Creative problem solving and the ability to iterate on solutions for challenging problems

  • Adaptability in learning and applying evolving AI systems and tools to remain at the forefront of design and engineering trends

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent years of experience 

  • 6+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience; or Master’s degree in a technical field + 5+ year of post-grad software development experience; or PhD in a relevant technical field + 2+ years of post-grad software development experience

  • Experience with iOS application development (Objective-C and/or Swift)

  • 3+ years of experience driving product strategy and/or design decisions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with design and rapid prototyping software (e.g. AI, Figma, Sketch, Framer, Origami, Principle)

  • Bringing something new to the table: whether that’s a new perspective on our product, a unique understanding of a particular field, or expertise in something like hardware, AI, 3D graphics, HCI, etc.

  • A portfolio showcasing your work and strong mobile design skills

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $209,000-$313,000 annually.


 

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $199,000-$297,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $178,000-$266,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
