We are seeking a Design Associate to support planning, design, and construction administration activities for educational facility projects throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with an architectural or planning background who enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary teams while making a meaningful impact on California's public schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, design, and construction of educational facility projects.
  • Review architectural, engineering, and planning drawings for quality, completeness, and code compliance.
  • Assist with managing Architectural/Engineering (A/E) contracts and consultant services.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, project studies, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain project records and organize design information.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including Project Execution, Maintenance & Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Furniture & Interiors, and Design Services.
  • Assist with design and construction administration activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts supporting District building projects.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Planning.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in an architecture, engineering, or planning environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting the planning, design, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agency projects.
  • Experience reviewing architectural and engineering drawings and coordinating design disciplines.
  • Knowledge of California building codes, ADA, Title 24, CalGreen, and applicable educational facility standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with K-12 or higher education capital improvement programs.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, consultants, and public agencies.
  • Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements and California Department of Education standards.
