You are an organizational leader with a passion for data and analysis, who has a clear vision for how data can transform company strategy. You bring the leadership necessary to grow a team through the start-up phase into a mature organization. You are responsible for scaling the data function in an environment based primarily on cloud-based SaaS systems. One of your core competencies is transforming data into stories that inform high-level strategy and tactical decision-making. You consider global operations and be able to manage a remote, geographically dispersed team and ensure that the organization always approaches work with the goal of continuous improvement.

We are looking for a Director of Data Analytics and Insights to build upon our existing data practice and use those insights to inspire creativity in other team members. You will lead a team of data professionals as they use research and analysis to inform strategy and decision-making across the company (business operations, finance, marketing, product, engineering, customer support, and leadership) and deliver machine learning-based product features.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the company’s data is centralized into a single data lake and modeled to support data analysis requirements from all functional groups
- Create a common data framework so that all company data can be analyzed in a unified manner
- Create and execute a plan to develop and mature our ability to measure and optimize usage growth, mapped to our user journey
- Ensure that all transactional systems can communicate with the data warehouse and that production data adheres to a unified data model
- Develop a roadmap for the data and analytics function that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the central data function and the functional groups
- Collaborate with all functions of the company to ensure data needs are addressed, and the required data is modeled and available to analysts and end-users
- Build out processes that support the different needs of groups from full-service to self-service across our data stack
- Work with product, operations, and executive management to guide a holistic vision of the future of data at SimplePractice, and help leadership plan for any changes in our data strategy or needs. An example is in-product analytics
- Recruit, build, and manage a team of A-players that executes your vision
- Bring machine learning initiatives from concept to production
- Be an evangelist and organizational thought leader for how to best use data and research insights to guide decision-making
- This position reports directly to the CIO and works closely with the executive team to develop an organization plan that addresses company wide analytic resources in either a direct report or matrix model
Requirements
- 8+ years of industry experience
- Master’s degree, PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or related field or Undergraduate degree with compensating industry experience
- 4+ years experience in leading, hiring, and managing a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to translate ideas and business requirements into business solutions
- Strong analytical skills; ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations
- Strong background/experience with ETL (Stitch, FiveTran, Blendo etc), data mining, statistical analysis, data processing with large amounts of data
- Strong understanding and ability to operate with SQL and modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.)
- Experience with data transformation tools (e.g. DBT)
- Experience with data visualization tools/dashboard development (e.g., Google Data Studio, Looker, Tableau, etc.)
- Experience with the machine learning lifecycle from research to production
- Thorough understanding of SSOT (single source of truth) and Automated Data Quality
- Experience designing data warehouses, databases, & data schemas
- Experience working with data at a SaaS company
Nice To Have
- Understanding and ability to operate with systems and tools including Kafka, Pandas, Spark, TensorFlow, PyTorch
- Experience owning a data practice and implementing product roadmap(s)
- Personal interest in machine learning and AI systems
