Datafold is a fast-growing, Series A startup at the forefront of data quality and observability—think Datadog for data engineers. Backed by top-tier investors including YC, Amplify, and NEA, we're redefining how companies like Disney, FanDuel, and Perplexity maintain quality across the entire data lifecycle. Although headquartered in the US, we’re a fully remote team with employees across the US and EU.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to play a key role in strategic customer engagements, leveraging the Datafold Migration Agent (DMA)—an AI-powered tool that’s transforming data migration. You will be instrumental in accelerating workflow migrations, helping customers transition their data platforms in a fraction of the time and cost.

About the Role
  • Meet with the customer and create an in-depth understanding of their migration project and architecture

  • Collaborate closely with Datafold’s Engineering team on assembling an AI migration pipeline

  • Advise the customer and Datafold team on the best way to approach migrations

  • Leverage Datafold’s AI migration toolkit to perform translation and validation of complex pipelines

About You

We are looking for engineers who have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer

  • Advanced mastery of SQL

  • Strong understanding of key data engineering patterns, including batch orchestration (Airflow, dbt, Dagster, etc.) and streaming pipelines.

  • Outstanding communication skills (consulting or customer-facing experience is a plus)

  • Familiarity with at least one legacy (Oracle, SQL Server, SAP HANA, Teradata, etc.) or modern (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) data stack, with the ability to quickly learn and understand the use, purpose, and key differences of these systems

You will be a great fit if you have experience:

  • Driving data platform migrations

  • Across a broad set of data tools, including BI, (reverse) ETL, orchestration, etc.

Datafold is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military status, or any other protected characteristic. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all individuals. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse work environment where all employees are valued and unique perspectives are respected and celebrated.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
