Work Your Way:
At Spreetail, we believe in empowering our employees to work in the way that suits them best through our Work Your Way approach. Each team member has the flexibility to choose where they work most effectively each week—whether that's from home, a coffee shop, or the office. While flexibility is key, we also value the power of in-person connection. That’s why we bring our corporate team together in Lincoln each quarter for a week of intentional collaboration, team building, community engagement, and our All-Hands meeting. It’s the best of both worlds: the freedom to work your way, with meaningful opportunities to connect and grow together. Please scroll to the bottom of the job posting to confirm that your state qualifies for the Work Your Way program.
Our Software & Technology teams build scalable, reliable, and cutting-edge software to propel Spreetail to being a top ecommerce company. We expect our Data Engineers to lead impactful, cost-effective, and scalable data solutions that empower innovation across the organization. You will be accountable for the systems you build, the business outcomes they drive, and the elevation of data engineering practices across teams.
How you will achieve success:
- Technical Excellence: Design and implement reliable, scalable data pipelines and storage solutions across batch, near-real-time, and streaming environments. Champion data quality, observability, and cost optimization.
- Innovation Leadership: Advance Spreetail's Hybrid Data Platform strategy and shape how data is transformed, cataloged, and consumed. Identify tooling, frameworks, and practices that accelerate AI/ML use cases and democratize data access.
- Situational Context: Understand business priorities and workload characteristics to make intentional tradeoffs between performance, cost, and time-to-value.
- Relationship Building: Collaborate closely with Product, Data Management, and Engineering peers. Influence through clarity, humility, and technical credibility. Be known for your reliability and follow-through.
- Engineering Standards: Champion high standards in data modeling, pipeline testing, observability, and code quality.
What experiences will help you in this role:
- 6+ years in data engineering or platform engineering roles and experience coaching of less experienced engineers.
- Demonstrated success building systems that support analytical, operational, or ML use cases.
- Experience modernizing legacy data workflows or leading platform transitions.
- Expertise with batched and streaming data workloads feeding federated data systems. Proficiency in data orchestration (e.g., Dagster), schema evolution, and cost optimization.
- Fluency in SQL and Python; working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and containerized deployment.
In an effort to Make Spreetail Better, we hire people that are aligned with our values and are passionate about pursuing ecommerce excellence. We believe the right person can learn what is needed to succeed in their role, so we encourage job applicants to apply even if you don't meet all the qualifications listed.
