The Job: 

The Data Definition Manager Will Be A Key Member Of Stanley Black & Decker’s Tools And Outdoor Division, With Focus On Collection, Cleansing, Standardization, And Maintenance Of Product Related Data. Responsible For Managing The Roadmap Of The Product Data Program, Collaborating With Business Functions To Gather And Document Data Requirements, Review And Embed These Needs Into Business Process, And Partner With IT To Build A Satisfactory User Experience.

You will:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the Global Product Data model, overseeing the data model roadmap, its alignment with business objectives, supporting development budgets, and capability delivery in partnership with teams in technology, governance and subject matter experts. 
  • Facilitate and partner with the Product Data council to define new product data structures, definitions, and process requirements.
  • Coordinate development and releases of new requirements across the Product Data tech stack in partnership with the Data Delivery Manager and other technical functions
  • Leverage business knowledge and relationships to lead data mapping exercises from existing data sources as input to data ETL processes led by the Data Delivery Manager and team.
  • Be the point of contact on product lifecycle processes within Product Data scope, partnering with business and technology partners to iteratively improve, expand, and document processes for development by the Governance build team. 
  • Lead the design of user access to Product Data through the Salsify catalogue capability, including defining key metrics to assess usage and delivered value. 
  • Directly supervise a team of analysts, supporting their performance and career development, and support broader team development on data structuring and taxonomy best practices.
  • Partner with the program director to provide regular updates on new and future data capabilities, fostering collaboration and transparency to the larger Strategy & Insights, CGO, and Tools & Outdoor team.
  • Ensure that project outputs are consistently high-quality deliverables, delivered on time and accurately.
  • Escalate areas of concern, conflict, or program scope risk with recommended corrective action to Product Data Director

The Person:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, data science, marketing, or a similar field
  • Master’s degree in data science, library science, or a similar field preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics, business analysis, IT, business systems development, product management, or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in data modeling & library science, including developing taxonomies and hierarchies
  • Familiarity with tools industry and product types
  • Prior experience with Salsify & PIM solutions preferred
  • Possesses excellent coaching skills and has a desire to supervise and lead a team
  • Previous front-line supervisory/team lead experience is preferred but not required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with the MS Office Suite
  • Understanding of ERP systems such as SAP, JDE, or JDA is a plus
  • Familiarity with Jira or other Agile development software
  • Excellent English speaking, reading, and writing skills
  • Experience negotiating and guiding requirement development with stakeholders
  • Proven ability to translate requirements from business terms into technical requirements, including explaining them to technical team members
