Job Summary & Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

The C-UAS Technical Expert Position supports the planning, integration, execution, and evaluation of counter-unmanned aircraft system activities for customers throughout the United States and in overseas operating environments. Assignments may support U.S. and allied government organizations, military units, federal agencies, state and local law enforcement, critical-infrastructure operators, defense contractors, technology manufacturers, and other authorized private or commercial entities.

The position provides operational and technical expertise during C-UAS training, system integration, testing and evaluation, technology demonstrations, exercises, site assessments, capability development, and range operations. Candidates can be considered for C-UAS Trainer, C-UAS Integrator and Spectrum Manager roles if eligible based on prior experience.

Personnel may support customer requirements at the Constellis Training Center or deploy to other CONUS and OCONUS locations based on program and mission needs.

Individuals assigned to these positions must possess a strong working knowledge of C-UAS systems, layered-defense principles, tactical operations, threat capabilities, system employment, and the integration of multiple sensors and defeat mechanisms. This includes an understanding of radar, RF detection, electronic warfare, EO/IR, command-and-control, communications, UAS technologies, and authorized kinetic and non-kinetic defeat capabilities.

The C-UAS Technical Expert works directly with customers, operators, instructors, engineers, vendors, range personnel, and program leadership to translate operational requirements into effective training, integration, testing, and employment solutions. Responsibilities may include advising customers on system capabilities and limitations, evaluating system performance, supporting tactical scenario development, identifying integration or coverage deficiencies, and recommending improvements to layered-defense procedures.

Depending on qualifications and assignment requirements, employees may serve as C-UAS instructors, system integrators, spectrum managers, evaluators, technical advisors, or exercise-support personnel. All activities will be performed in accordance with applicable laws, authorities, customer requirements, safety standards, security procedures, range regulations, and company policies.

These are casual, part-time positions supporting intermittent customer and program requirements. Assignments are scheduled based on mission needs, employee availability, technical qualifications, and customer requirements. Work may involve irregular schedules, field conditions, domestic or international travel, and short-duration assignments. No minimum number of work hours is guaranteed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a technical and operational C-UAS subject matter expert during training, testing and evaluation, technology demonstrations, exercises, site assessments, and customer engagements.
  • Apply the detect, track, identify, decide, and defeat methodology when planning, evaluating, and supporting layered C-UAS operations.
  • Support the employment and integration of radar, passive RF, electronic warfare, EO/IR, acoustic, command-and-control, communications, kinetic defeat, and non-kinetic defeat capabilities.
  • Evaluate C-UAS system performance, operational suitability, capabilities, limitations, coverage, interoperability, and effectiveness against representative UAS threats.
  • Support layered-defense planning based on the threat, terrain, airspace, electromagnetic environment, mission requirements, protected assets, and available authorities.
  • Advise customers and operational personnel on C-UAS system employment, sensor placement, coverage considerations, engagement procedures, and tactical integration.
  • Operate, configure, inspect, test, and troubleshoot assigned C-UAS systems and associated equipment within individual qualifications and authorization.
  • Support tactical scenarios involving UAS detection, tracking, identification, classification, decision-making, reporting, and authorized defeat procedures.
  • Support C-UAS battle drills, crew drills, command-and-control processes, reporting procedures, and coordination between sensors, operators, decision-makers, and defeat capabilities.
  • Assist with the development, validation, and refinement of C-UAS concepts of operation, SOPs, tactics, techniques, procedures, training materials, test plans, and evaluation criteria.
  • Support realistic threat replication and Red Force activities using representative UAS platforms, flight profiles, tactics, payloads, and operational scenarios.
  • Provide technical observations, operational analysis, after-action feedback, and recommendations following training, testing, demonstrations, and exercises.
  • Maintain accurate system records, test data, training documentation, equipment accountability, configuration information, and operational reports.
  • Coordinate with customers, instructors, range control, safety personnel, UAS operators, vendors, engineers, spectrum personnel, and other Constellis staff.
  • Ensure activities comply with applicable FAA, FCC, DoD, customer, range, airspace, spectrum, safety, security, and information-protection requirements.
  • Maintain technical proficiency on assigned systems, emerging UAS threats, evolving C-UAS technologies, and current operational practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of relevant C-UAS, air defense, electronic warfare, radar, RF, communications, UAS, military, law enforcement, or technical experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of layered C-UAS defense and the integration of multiple detection, tracking, identification, command-and-control, and defeat capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of C-UAS technologies, including radar, RF detection, electronic warfare, EO/IR, C2, communications, kinetic defeat, and non-kinetic defeat systems.
  • Understanding of UAS platforms, threat categories, flight characteristics, mission profiles, payloads, control methods, navigation systems, and common employment tactics.
  • Experience supporting C-UAS operations, training, testing and evaluation, exercises, demonstrations, capability assessments, or system integration.
  • Ability to interpret system manuals, architecture diagrams, SOPs, CONOPS, TTPs, test plans, operational orders, and customer requirements.
  • Ability to identify and clearly communicate system capabilities, limitations, performance deficiencies, integration risks, and operational considerations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with military, government, law enforcement, commercial, technical, and executive audiences.

    • Prior experience supporting DoD, federal, law enforcement, critical-infrastructure, or international customers.
    • Experience with multiple C-UAS platforms or system-of-systems architectures.
    • Experience developing C-UAS doctrine, CONOPS, SOPs, TTPs, training programs, test plans, or capability assessments.
    • Operational experience in deployed, high-threat, or joint and multinational environments.
    • Current or previously held U.S. Government security clearance.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
