JOB OVERVIEW:

We're looking for a Creative Technologist to join Gemini's first internal social creative team — a group of thinkers and makers defining how AI can creatively and meaningfully engage with the world.

As a Creative Technologist, you live at the intersection of design, engineering, and culture. You dream alongside creatives, build what you dream, and then bring those ideas to the world — teaching, connecting, and evangelizing what's possible at the frontier of AI and social. You are the bridge between ambitious internal ideas and the broader developer and creator community, as much as you are between concept and working code.

The right person for this role is entrepreneurial at heart, with a healthy disrespect for the impossible. You are resourceful under pressure, fluent in creative and technical language, equally comfortable in a code editor and on a stage, and energized by absurdly ambitious timelines.

** Please note this is a temporary position through the end of 2026.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Build & Ship: Act as the primary technical maker on projects — writing production-quality code for web experiences, interactive tools, AR effects, and AI-driven creative outputs.

  • Ideate & Prototype: Collaborate with strategists and creatives to rapidly build interactive prototypes, technical proofs-of-concept, and social-first experiments.

  • Innovate with AI: Explore and implement the latest advancements in AI/ML — particularly Large Language Models, generative tools, and the Gemini API via Google AI Studio — to create novel social experiences.

  • Evangelize & Educate: Represent the Gemini platform at external events, workshops, and community spaces — teaching developers and creators how to build with AI, sharing what the team is learning, and building meaningful relationships across the tech and creative communities.

  • Technical Architecture: Advise on the feasibility of creative ideas and own the pathway from prototype to production, serving as the team's technical authority.

  • Technology Scouting: Stay at the leading edge of emerging technologies, social behaviors, and digital art — and translate those signals into actionable creative ideas for the Gemini brand.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to launch experiments and identify partners who can scale successful innovations.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Fluency in one or more general-purpose languages: Python, JavaScript, Go, Java, Ruby, or PHP

  • Hands-on experience building with the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, including prompt engineering and LLM-based application development

  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, generative tools, and how to apply them in creative and social contexts

  • Experience building web and interactive experiences: three.js, WebGL, or comparable

  • Familiarity with AR/VR tooling: Unity, 3D modeling, ARCore, or WebXR

  • Comfort working within Google Cloud Platform

  • Proficiency with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows

  • Experience with API integration — connecting services, webhooks, and third-party platforms

  • Comfort as a public-facing voice — whether presenting at events, running workshops, writing technical content, or engaging developer and creator communities

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro) a plus

  • Based in or willing to relocate to New York City or Los Angeles; hybrid with an expectation of 1–3 days per week in office

Base salary range: $150-175K, plus bonus potential if applicable for role.
Actual base salary is dependent on several factors including but not limited to; market dynamics, location and region, experience, specialized skills/training (education), level of responsibility, budgetary considerations, tenure at the company (for current employees), etc. The salary range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Compensation decisions are dependent on circumstances of each role.

What We Offer:

  • Professional Development: Take advantage of our learning and development programs, mentorship opportunities, and career advancement support.

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy generous paid time off and holiday allowances to recharge and spend time with loved ones.

  • Parental Leave: We provide paid parental leave to support your family during important life events.

  • Retirement Plan: 401k plan including contribution matching.

  • Healthcare: Medical, HSA coverage options

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
