About CoLab

At CoLab, we want to help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

CoLab is a cloud based platform for engineering design review. We make it easy for subject matter experts (SMEs) across your business to access, evaluate, and comment on 2D drawings and 3D models. Our built-in AI peer checker, AutoReview, can analyze designs for you and spot common errors or non-compliance with your standards and guidelines. AutoReview creates markups and comments on your files, in context – just like a human checker.

With CoLab, human SMEs and AI work together to help you make better decisions and improve designs faster. We automatically capture knowledge from across your global business that would otherwise be buried in emails, spreadsheets, slide decks, and unknown locations in Sharepoint or PLM. Then, we make sure every lesson learned and every design guideline is applied exactly when it matters.

Companies like Johnson Controls, Komatsu, Schaeffler, and Polaris have launched products 40% faster, cut BOM costs by 50%, and reduced quality escapes by 15% in 1 year.

About the Role

This is a new senior creative leadership role on the marketing team, reporting directly to the CMO. As Creative Director, you’ll own CoLab’s brand identity across design and copy, ensuring world-class creative execution and unwavering consistency across every touchpoint. You’ll lead our brand designers and multimedia producer, and you’ll collaborate with copywriters and marketers to bring our brand voice to life.

Your mandate is twofold: (1) ensure world-class creative execution and consistent brand identity across marketing, sales, and product, and (2) work directly with the CMO to shape how CoLab is perceived by the outside world—customers, analysts, investors, and prospective employees alike.
This role demands a rare combination of creative vision and operational drive. You not only see what “great” looks like, but you also push it through to execution every time. If that means jumping on a call with an AE the night before a big presentation to make sure they walk in with materials that reflect the CoLab brand at its best, you’re the type of person who will support that.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • You are obsessed with brand consistency: if something goes out the door that doesn’t meet your standards, it keeps you up at night until it’s fixed.
  • You’ve built and managed creative teams in high-growth B2B software companies.
  • You pair bold creative vision with the discipline and grit to drive it through to execution, down to the smallest detail.
  • You are equally strong in design and in shaping compelling brand copy, with a sharp eye for how the two work together.
  • Product design wants your input, sales respects your standards, marketing peers see you as a partner, and your team feels both challenged and supported by you.

Responsibilities

  • Own CoLab’s brand identity and enforce consistency across marketing, sales, product, and every other external touchpoint.
  • Enable and develop the creative team (brand designers, multimedia/video producer) to deliver world-class creative execution.
  • Collaborate with copywriters and marketers to ensure all brand copy aligns with CoLab’s voice and standards.
  • Be hands-on when necessary to protect quality—from reviewing sales presentations to refining product visuals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Demand Generation, Content, Product Marketing, and Sales to ensure all initiatives reinforce the brand identity.
  • Partner with Product Design to extend brand consistency into the product experience.
  • Establish and maintain creative guidelines, toolkits, and systems to scale consistency as CoLab grows.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in creative leadership roles, ideally in B2B software.
  • Proven success leading design and creative teams with measurable impact on brand consistency and perception.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in brand identity, design systems, and marketing creative.
  • Experience shaping copy and messaging in partnership with content and marketing peers.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence; able to influence across teams and at the leadership level.

Extra Details

  • This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive compensation package that includes stock options.
  • Extended health and benefits package, including unlimited paid vacation and RRSP matching.
  • Flexible remote opportunities across North America, with a hybrid office hub in St. John’s, NL.

Equity Note

Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic and apply even if you don’t meet every single qualification—your potential is what matters most to us.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
