Creative Director

Alma is seeking a Creative Director to elevate and champion the role of creative within the Alma brand. Reporting into the SVP of Brand & Marketing, this role will partner closely with the Director of Brand to shape the creative expression of Alma’s brand strategy and be responsible for leading and growing a Creative team to deliver high-quality, compelling creative that moves the brand and business forward. The ideal candidate is a visual innovator and compelling storyteller, equally comfortable concepting and executing, with demonstrated experience leading small but mighty teams that deliver creative excellence.

What you’ll do:

  • Guide the creative vision and strategy, partnering closely with the Director of Brand and Content to continually evolve look and feel and shaping our voice across channels, ensuring brand consistency and resonance across owned and paid channels, as well as integrated brand campaigns
  • Champion bold ideas and and creative approaches to expressing the Alma story and more deeply connecting with our different audiences (therapists, clients, payers and employers)
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of designers, copywriters, and creative project managers, fostering an environment of creativity, innovation, and collaboration
  • Partner with Creative Project Managers to oversee the end-to-end creative process, ensuring alignment with the brand vision and a team that works smarter not harder
  • Partner with Creative Project Managers to oversee relationships with external agencies, freelancers, and other external vendors to ensure high-quality, on-brand execution of creative 
  • Partner with Product Design to maintain brand cohesion across Marketing and Product surfaces 
  • Maintain a strong understanding of our audiences, market trends, and competitor landscape as well as the Alma product and customer experiences to inform creative work

Who you are:

  • You have 6+ years in a creative leadership role, ideally in brand design in a startup environment, with a portfolio of needle-moving, boundary-pushing creative work 
  • You can translate business objectives and brand strategy into creative vision and concepts that resonate deeply with multiple audiences
  • You can prioritize and work well under pressure while maintaining speed and high attention to detail given shifting timelines, updates, and last-minute changes 
  • You can craft an elegant, efficient operational vision for the team, and deep understanding of trends and tools (including AI) that augment creative teams and process
  • You demonstrate strong, empathy-led leadership and people management skills with a track record of inspiring and developing creative talent across design, copy, and creative producers and project managers
  • You are skilled at leading multidisciplinary teams across levels; providing mentorship to junior designers, strategic guidance to mid and senior creatives, and effectively managing relationships with freelancers and external agencies
  • You have willingness to “do the work” and get hands-on with the design—creating directional mock ups that go beyond just moodboards—for key deliverables and special projects
  • You have expert-level proficiency with Figma and Adobe products, with deep working knowledge of the latest tools and innovations within each product and a passion for mentoring others to better utilize them
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate strategy and creative concepts to stakeholders across the business
  • You are a bold advocate for Creative at the leadership level, ensuring team needs, priorities, and bandwidth are visible and valued

Salary Band: $158,200 - $225,800
