Job Description

We are seeking a Creative Director to be the driving force behind the overall creative strategy for our upcoming line of interactive, crime-solving mobile games. Our ideal candidate has had experience guiding a game from inception to successful rollout and beyond, and is ready to repeat that success. You'll provide inspiring creative direction for immersive, unforgettable storytelling experiences that engage our players and build an enthusiastic community around our brand.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Creative Director with strong leadership skills who is comfortable being hands-on as a member of a small team. You’ll work closely with our Engineering, Creative, and Design teams to align product strategy and tie the product's goals to the target audience. Your expertise will be crucial in translating our creative vision into engaging game systems and building a world that resonates with players. The ideal candidate has a rich background in startup mobile game production.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive great story and craft that inspires players through all areas of the game and inspires player retention
  • Effectively manage team members around setting creative goals, establishing standards for quality, and review of delivery with an eye toward ongoing improvement
  • Partner with designers and writers to sculpt thematics that support the game experience
  • Oversee external partners and outsourcing teams to ensure delivery of high quality creative content
  • Articulate the intended emotional experience of all aspects of the game
  • Define an inspirational north star that empowers our team to bring a unified vision to life
  • Ability to integrate characters, factions, and lore into impactful gameplay
  • Collaborate on branding and marketing aesthetics, ensuring consistency across promotional materials and in-game assets
  • Stay up to speed on industry trends and how competitor games evolve their mechanics, aesthetics and business models to drive acquisition, fandom, and engagement
  • As needed, directly generate content including style guides, art descriptions, concept sketches, and more

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years experience total in game development, and at least 4+ years in a direct managerial role
  • Success shipping previous titles from inception to launch
  • Proven ability to successfully partner with contractors creative agencies, individual artists, and art teams
  • Experience working with multiple disciplines, particularly game design, to deliver on a goal
  • A skilled storyteller who can communicate that vision with ease to team members and collaborate with them to bring a shared creation to life

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: The base pay for this role is $105-140k per year, depending on experience. We highly value transparency and offering competitive pay, based on current market research and employee experience level.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy the flexibility and adventure that comes from being self-directed at a startup.
  • Remote Work: 100% fully remote position.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunity to establish the product management practice at Wolf Games and lead the group as it expands.
  • Innovative Technologies: Work with the latest generative AI technologies and self-defining software.

Additional Information

  • Start Date: Position available immediately.
  • Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Chief Creative Officer.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must have authorization to work in their country of residence, as we are a fully remote company.
  • Equal Opportunity Employer: Wolf Games is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
