About Roo and the role

Roo is building the modern labor marketplace and operating system for veterinary care. We help hospitals reliably access great veterinary professionals and help veterinary professionals find flexible, meaningful work.

Roo launched in the Greater Toronto Area in September 2026, our first market outside the US. Vancouver and Calgary follow in early 2027. We're looking for a Country Lead to run Roo Canada. You own the Canadian number and you sell against it yourself. You are accountable for one outcome: making Roo the way Canadian hospitals find locum veterinarians and technicians, and the way those professionals find work, in every market we open.

This is a player-coach role. In your first months you are Roo's main seller in Canada. As the business grows, you hire and lead the team that takes over that work. Roo's product, marketing, events and data teams serve every country, so much of your job is getting them to work on what Canada needs most.

ResponsibilitiesMarketplace Growth
  • Sign up and activate hospitals onto the Roo platform.
  • Recruit and activate locum veterinarians and technicians (RVTs, VAs) in each market.
  • Keep supply and demand in balance in each metro, so hospitals see shifts filled and professionals see enough work.
  • Win hospital groups, working with Roo's Enterprise AM team.
Market and Product Launches
  • Launch Vancouver and Calgary in early 2027.
  • Recommend which Canadian markets come next.
  • Bring Roo's other products to Canada, starting with Locum-to-Hire and Roo Uni
  • Adapt each product for Canada with the product, legal and marketing teams before launch.
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Identify what the Canadian business needs and turn it into clear, prioritized requests.
  • Work with Product, Marketing, Events and Partnerships, Data, Finance and Legal to deliver it.
  • Bring these teams together around each launch with one plan, owners and dates.
The Number and the Team
  • Own Canada revenue against plan, with a weekly forecast.
  • Run a weekly business review that ends in decisions.
  • Hire and lead Canada's first account manager. Expand the team with business needs.
What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you will:

  • Grow Canada revenue above plan.
  • Launch Vancouver and Calgary on schedule.
  • Launch Locum-to-Hire in Canada.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners successfully.
  • Hire and ramp Canada's first account manager.
Qualifications
  • You have owned a revenue number for a market or region.
  • You have launched or scaled a market or a product from an early stage.
  • You still like to sell, to hospitals and to professionals, including walking into a clinic without an appointment.
  • You have led cross-functional work with teams you don't manage, and followed it through until it shipped.
  • Marketplace judgment. You can tell whether a problem is demand, supply, price or quality, and you act on the real one.
  • You hire well and own people problems.
  • Knowledge of Canadian veterinary care or healthcare is a strong plus.
  • Full time location in Canada is a requirement for this role.
  • High agency, coachability and fluency with AI as a way of working.
Why Roo
  • Run Roo's first country outside the US from the start.
  • Build the model Roo uses to enter future countries.
  • Join a company defining a new category in veterinary workforce flexibility.
  • Partner closely with an ambitious leadership team that values first-principles thinking, ownership and continuous improvement.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
