This is a strategic role, focusing on designing and operationalizing AI policies and governance frameworks to enable responsible innovation across investment, client-facing, HR, and operational AI use cases at a highly regulated asset manager. The work is global by design and requires seamless coordination with Europe, Canada, and Asia stakeholders. You will help create policies, guardrails, tools, and scalable systems to handle large volumes that empower teams to experiment, deploy, and manage AI responsibly at enterprise scale.

  •  Ensure multijurisdictional alignment (EU AI Act high-risk considerations, GDPR, emerging U.S. and Asia frameworks) with smooth cross time zone coordination

  • Leverage experience with negotiating third party data vendor, SAAS and AI provider contracts to build scalable AI/cloud/data vendor templates and negotiation playbooks that integrate Information Security and Global Risk requirements, and the candidate will enhance these via legal tech and AI enabled workflows and managed service providers

  •  Partner with investment teams, client groups, HR, compliance, information security, data office, procurement, and global risk to embed pragmatic guardrails into high-impact AI initiatives

  •  Provide clear, commercially oriented guidance, training, and governance committee support to accelerate responsible innovation and risk-aware decisions

  •  Track regulatory and technology developments across the U.S., Canada, EU, and Asia and translate insights into actionable framework updates

  •  The ideal candidate already experiments with AI tools and helps evolve AI enabled workflows, including developing or enhancing L&C focused AI automations and agents

  • Support governance decisions around complex AI applications (e.g., model supported research workflows, generative AI client tools, automated HR analytics)

Required Qualifications

  • JD + active CA or NY Bar (or eligible for CA or NY Registered In House Counsel registration)

  •  3–4 years’ experience in law focusing on technology transactions, data/privacy, or financial services regulatory counseling

  • Demonstrated success designing or operationalizing AI governance frameworks with practical integration of regulatory requirements, information security and global risk

  • Strong transactional foundation with experience negotiating IT vendor, SAAS and AI provider contracts and developing AI/cloud/data templates and playbooks, such as for AI enable contract markup and intelligence systems

  •  Proven ability to coordinate complex, multijurisdictional projects (U.S. hub with EU/Asia input)

  •  Demonstrated experimentation with AI tools in legal practice

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with credibility across senior investment, HR, client, and/or operations stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-4 years' experience with a top tier law firm and/or a leading AI-focused financial services inhouse legal team

  •  Experience with generative AI in investment, client facing, or HR applications

  •  Familiarity with legal tech or contract AI platforms, and prior work building or experimenting with AI agents for Legal & Compliance use cases

  • Regional familiarity with Europe and Asia regulatory considerations and/or additional language fluency

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
