Why Harvey

At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come.

This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point. We have strong product-market fit and world-class investor support. We’re scaling fast and defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for growth — personal, professional, and financial — is unmatched.

Our team moves fast, takes ownership, and is deeply committed to the mission — operating with intensity, staying close to our customers, and pushing each other for excellence. We live by three values: Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished. We act quickly on clear judgment over perfect information, we believe simplicity is what scales, and we're never satisfied with where we are. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who share that drive, we'd love to build with you.

At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started.

Role Overview

The Business Development team at Harvey is responsible for enabling step-change outcomes, working in lock-step with go-to-market and product leadership. We rapidly adapt to the changing market environment, unlock new product experiences, and deliver new business. As a member of this team, you will help us build differentiated product offerings and scalable go-to-market motions.

This role owns the legal research side of that work. You will source, evaluate, and negotiate access to the legal research content our products are built on and connected to, across both primary and secondary sources. You will quarterback these deals from identification and evaluation through negotiation and product integration.

Legal content is a difficult market to work in. Rights are fragmented, licensing terms are idiosyncratic. We are looking for someone who already understands that terrain, either because they practiced and relied on these materials every day, or because they sat on the other side of the table building and licensing them.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders across product, engineering, finance, legal, and go-to-market functions to drive strategic initiatives and ensure successful partnership outcomes.

Your ability to articulate the value of Harvey's product and sales strategy, coupled with your passion for groundbreaking AI technologies, will help us shape the future of knowledge work.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for legal content and data partnerships, aligned with Harvey's overall product and GTM strategy.

  • Independently identify, evaluate, and establish a range of partnerships with legal content and data providers.

  • Assess corpora on the merits: jurisdictional coverage, historical depth, update cadence, editorial enhancements, metadata quality, and what rights actually come with the data.

  • Negotiate complex licensing agreements, ensuring mutually beneficial terms and alignment with company goals.

  • Conduct quantitative analysis, create business cases, and present them to executives.

  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, finance, legal and GTM teams to oversee the successful integration of new content sources into the product.

  • Build and nurture strong long-term relationships with key partners, ensuring mutual success and achievement of partnership goals and business objectives.

  • Operate autonomously, being both a proactive executor and strategic thinker at Harvey pace.

What You Have
  • You practiced law in the United States, or you helped build the tools lawyers practice with. We have a strong preference for litigators who have real fluency in the legal research corpus. Experience working in business development, product, or corporate development is a strong plus.

  • Proven ability to develop executive relationships, negotiate complex contracts, and problem-solve with external partners to drive distribution in new markets.

  • Experience collaborating with product teams to develop and distribute new technology solutions.

  • Team player who can collaborate effectively across internal functions (Product, Legal, GTM, etc.) to achieve common goals.

  • Demonstrated passion for Harvey's mission and a strong understanding of AI and its potential applications in knowledge work.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—can influence without authority and drive urgency with empathy.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
