Lead and run True Anomaly's editorial engine: plan story slate, commission and interview contributors, write and edit flagship pieces (including the annual State of the Domain report), develop messaging and narrative, produce company-wide copy, and partner with executives and cross-functional teams to translate complex space and defense topics into authoritative thought leadership.

Space is a warfighting domain. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build the technology that secures it.

OUR MISSION

True Anomaly delivers decisive capabilities for space superiority. We build autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors — enabling the U.S. and its Allies to secure the space environment and counter threats from the ultimate high ground.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity.
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results.
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together.

YOUR MISSION

The Copywriter & Editorial Lead owns the words. This is the person who translates True Anomaly's operational depth — orbital dynamics, space security, the strategy of the domain — into writing that is clear, compelling, and unmistakably True Anomaly, whether the reader is a policymaker, a journalist, an engineer deciding where to work, or an investor.

The role sits at the intersection of brand, communications, product, and executive thought leadership. But it has a distinctive center of gravity. True Anomaly's website carries both product marketing and brand marketing, and the heart of that brand marketing is thought leadership: original stories, analysis, and points of view on the domain, published under True Anomaly's own name. This person owns that editorial engine — and its signature annual expression, the State of the Domain report. That means planning the stories, commissioning and interviewing, writing the anchor pieces, and holding the editorial standard from first idea to published word.

This is a founding editorial hire. There is no editorial engine yet, no story slate, no house style on the page. The brand strategy is set and the narrative is clear — what's missing is the person who turns True Anomaly's point of view into a body of writing the domain actually reads, cites, and remembers.

This starts as a hands-on individual contributor role — this person writes and edits themselves — but at a senior level, and with a clear near-term path to bringing on at least one additional copywriter as the editorial engine proves out.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Thought Leadership & Editorial

  • Own True Anomaly's thought-leadership engine: the original stories, analysis, and points of view on the domain that anchor the brand-marketing layer of the website — define the editorial vision, plan the story slate, set the cadence, commission and interview, and write the anchor pieces yourself
  • Serve as editor of the annual State of the Domain report — True Anomaly's signature act of authority in the space security domain — owning it end to end from thesis and structure through the writing and final edit
  • Build the editorial engine that makes it sustainable: the story calendar, the contributor and interview pipeline, the standards, and the workflow
  • Hold the editorial standard. Every piece should reflect the company's operational depth and intellectual authority, and read like it could only have come from True Anomaly

Narrative & Voice

  • Help define and evolve True Anomaly's narrative, messaging architecture, and written voice — and steward that voice consistently across everything the company publishes
  • Turn technical complexity into stories that move beyond features and specs to the stakes: why the domain matters, what True Anomaly sees, and what it makes possible
  • Develop messaging frameworks that connect company vision, domain trends, and product reality into a coherent point of view

Company-Wide Copy

  • Write and edit the copy that carries the brand across the website and beyond: product and brand pages, landing pages, campaigns, product launch messaging, video scripts, and event and conference content
  • Serve as the writing standard-bearer for the function — the person others bring copy to, and the bar for what ships

Executive Thought Leadership

  • Partner with executives and subject-matter experts to develop thought leadership — bylines, keynote and conference narratives, and strategic long-form — extracting insight from technical and operational stakeholders and shaping it into a point of view
  • Identify emerging themes in space, defense, and national security and turn them into positions True Anomaly can own

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with the VP of Brand and Creative — who this role reports to — pairing editorial with visual craft. You own the writing, the story planning, and the editorial standard; the VP owns visual identity and how the website, report, and owned media look and are produced. The two disciplines sit together by design
  • Work with Communications on external messaging, press narratives, and executive visibility; with the Social Media Manager on adapting editorial into platform-native stories; and with product and business development to ground the writing in what's real

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years in editorial, brand storytelling, journalism, content strategy, or communications, with a portfolio that demonstrates strategic storytelling and range — not just clean copy
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical subject matter — ideally in defense, space, deep tech, or a comparably rigorous domain — into clear, compelling, credible narrative
  • Real editorial experience: planning and running a publication, editorial franchise, or major report — commissioning, editing others, and owning a standard, not only writing to brief
  • Exceptional interviewing skills and the instinct to extract insight from technical and executive stakeholders
  • Experience developing messaging frameworks, narrative, and executive thought leadership; comfort supporting a founder-led brand and executive visibility is a strong plus
  • A writing voice that is clear, direct, and unhedged — True Anomaly's external standard is high, and this person sets it
  • Senior enough to own the function alone today and build it tomorrow, and energized by a blank slate rather than thrown by it
  • Genuine interest in defense, national security, or space is a meaningful signal. Category expertise is not required; intellectual seriousness about the mission is

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
