POSITION SUMMARY:

The Contract Manager uses their skills and experience to devise negotiation strategies for vendor goods and services aimed at the risk mitigation and cost management goals of the organization and in accordance with laws, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures. Through collection, analysis, and interpretation of data and knowledge of healthcare operations, the Contract Manager will advise internal business teams on options and best practices, drive implementations, and deliver results.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Negotiates and drafts/edits moderate to complex, non-routine contracts; able to effectively manage contract activity with moderate to high risk to the business unit.
  • Prepares complex requests for proposals.
  • Reviews complex solicitations and prepares specialized and/or non-routine response for proposals, bids, and contract modifications.
  • Provides contractual and authoritative guidance to internal business team members for appropriate Statement of Work; connects to corporate goals and objectives relating to contract activity.
  • Develops negotiation strategy and leads negotiations on complex contractual issues.
  • Manages contract change control process.
  • Engages stakeholders in contracting and RFP decisions that benefit BMC and align with business objectives; determines and resolves barriers to achieve execution of best value and favorable outcomes.
  • Has solid understanding of the business case and financial implications of contract decisions; can advise internal business teams on best course of action.
  • Conducts market research to maintain knowledge of current industry trends, pricing, and products/services utilized by the health system.
  • Holds vendors accountable to performance expectations; uses sound judgment in business analysis as well as issue identification, resolution and appropriate escalation.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced contracting staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, law, or similar. Master’s degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Certification from National Contract Management Association (NCMA) or International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or similar credential preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

5+ years progressive experience in contract negotiation and/or category management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; detail oriented in all notes and documentation.
  • Skilled at researching, interpreting, and communicating complex issues in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in use of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, etc.
  • Proficient using contract lifecycle management and ERP systems.
  • Broad knowledge of legal principles and procedures as they relate to vendor contracts.
  • Able to achieve targeted results through influence and negotiation.
  • Proficient at spend analysis and forecasting necessary to make sound recommendations based on data.
  • Able to develop accurate and precise summary information for executive review and approval.
  • Knowledge of various hospital operations functions including clinical, facilities, IT, support services, materials management, value analysis, and vendor management functions.
