About the Role:

The Consumer Lending Specialist identifies lending solutions that best meet members needs by interviewing them and guiding them through the loan application process from start to finish. They analyze credit reports, and underwrite consumer loans within established lending authority while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and credit union policies. In addition to delivering exceptional member service through proactive communication and timely loan status updates, they identify opportunities to cross-sell lending productions and other credit union services that strengthen member relationships. Consumer Loan Specialists require a high level of accuracy, sound decision-making, and strong sales performance to consistently achieve loan production, ancillary product penetration, and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview consumer loan applicants and provide information on loan products that best meet the member's needs. Request and review all required information and documentation to complete a loan. Assist member in completing loan applications.

  • Obtain and evaluate credit reports.

  • Evaluate income, calculate debt-to-income ratios.

  • Use NADA / J.D Power valuation tool to evaluate collateral requirements and proposed collateral values.

  • Proactively evaluate applicant's eligibility for other credit union loans, products, services, and cross sell and/or refer to the appropriate department.

  • Effectively underwrite and approve consumer loans up to $30,000.

  • Responsible for achieving $100,000 in monthly upsell / cross-sell opportunities.

  • Responsible for selling GAP protection to members/borrowers and maintaining 50% penetration monthly.           

  • Responsible for selling mechanical breakdown policies to members/borrowers and maintaining 25% penetration monthly.

  • Responsible for selling payment protection to members/borrowers and maintaining 40% penetration monthly.

  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and quality at 97% or greater as it pertains to loan files.    

  • Evaluate risk and determine outcome of each loan request. Use credit lending limits and authority appropriately. Assure that loans, are within program guidelines and individual approval limits. For amounts exceeding program guidelines or individual limits, refer to manager.

  • Regularly and proactively communicate with members/borrowers providing loan status updates to ensure proper understanding of milestones.

  • Engage directly with members via incoming calls, emails and online banking to discuss their loan titles, handing follow-up as need to address questions. Provides exceptional customer service in all interactions, while achieving established efficiency goals.

  • Correspond with members, applicants and creditors to resolve questions regarding application information. Recommend and outline terms of loan within credit union's policies and procedures.

  • Ensure an interest rate structure that is consistent with credit union policies and procedures.

  • Review and comply with regulations as they apply to consumer loans and security agreements.

  • Develop, review, and manage your own action plan to insure that you are achieving desired loan production and ancillary sales results. Review with your manager as necessary.

  • Develop a working knowledge of mortgage and home equity products and services and refer business to the real estate lending team as necessary.   

  • Must adhere to all NCUA, and CFPB which includes but not limited to Regulation B, ECOA, Fair Lending, Wisconsin Consumer Act, and all other Compliance standards.

  • Comply with all Federal Regulations as they pertain to your job duties, including BSA.

Position Requirements:

  • This position is Remote.

  • 1+ year of prior lending experience is Required.

  • Prior experience selling ancillary products and identifying cross-selling opportunities is Required.

  • Prior experience working within a financial institution such as a bank or credit union is Required.

  • Demonstrated success in sales and customer service, with a proven ability to build relationships and deliver exceptional customer experiences is Required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with other is Required.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines is Required.

  • Proficiency with mainframe and PC software, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Word, with the ability to navigate and utilize internet-based applications effectively is Required.
