Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a 2nd Shift CNC Machinist II or III (Mills and/or Lathe) at our Burbank, CA location.

Second Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM -10:30 PM. Overtime may adjust start time (e.g., 3:00 PM for extended overtime) and/or extend end time. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.

Job Summary: 

The CNC Machinist produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies. 

Essential Functions:

  • Understand work orders, blueprints, manufacturing orders, and machining parameters

  • Validate material used

  • Maintain specifications; Troubleshoot, detect malfunctions and take appropriate actions; Know when to replace worn tools

  • Listen to machining operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and compensate for problems

  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, fixtures and knowledge of GDT standards

  • Maintain continuity among shifts by documenting and communicating actions taken thus far as well as any necessary further steps

  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management 

 Non-Essential Functions:

  • Maintain conscientious work behaviors including work ethic, safety standards, quality, costs, and On-Time Delivery (OTD) 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience machining with CNC Mills and/or Lathe, preferably in aerospace manufacturing.

  • Experience on 4-5 axis CNC Lathe (Okuma & Harding Lathe experience preferred).

  • Experience on 4-5 axis CNC Mills (Mazak machine, Fadal, Toyoda experience preferred).

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of various inspection equipment i.e. micrometers, calipers, and height gages; Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; Knowledge of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing; Understanding of cutting tool Geometry; Knowledge of tooling and coordination

  • Skills/Abilities: Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure; Good verbal and written communication; Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping

  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent  

  • Eligibility Requirement:  This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with Mazak, Fadal, or Toyoda CNC machines

  • Experience working with Okuma & Harding machine

  • Understanding of CNC G Code

  • Understanding of basic Math, Geometry and Trigonometry

  • Excellent teamwork skills 

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

  • Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary

  • Standing: 100% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Sitting: 0% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Lifting (in pounds): up to 30 pounds

  • Pushing (in pounds): up to 50 pounds

  • Mental/Visual: use of microscope, computer and blueprints

  • Workspace: clean bench, measuring table

Hourly Range: $34.00 to $46.50. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs. 

The level of the position will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities.

Second shift openings are eligible for a $2 shift differential. The $2 shift differential will be added to the base pay once training on First shift has been successfully completed and the employee transitions to the Second shift schedule.
