As a skilled AWS Commvault Backup Administrator, you will manage and optimize our backup and recovery solutions. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining Commvault environments and backup policies for AWS workloads, ensuring data protection, disaster recovery, and compliance with industry standards.
What you'll be doing...
Backup & Recovery Operations:

  • Design, implement, and manage Commvault backup solutions for AWS services, including EC2, RDS, S3, EBS, EFS, FSx, and DynamoDB.
  • Configure and monitor backup schedules, policies, and retention strategies to meet business continuity and compliance needs.
  • Perform backup restores, disaster recovery (DR) testing, and ensure data availability and integrity.
  • Automate backup processes using Terraform, Python, AWS Lambda, and Commvault APIs where applicable.


Monitoring & Optimization:

  • Continuously monitor backup performance, storage utilization, and error rates using tools like AWS CloudWatch and Datadog.
  • Monitor and optimize storage costs through tiered storage, deduplication, compression, and archiving strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures, job performance issues, and storage incidents.


Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure backups comply with regulatory standards and contractual commitments.
  • Implement encryption, access controls, and audit logging for backup security.
  • Collaborate with security teams to strengthen backup infrastructure and protect against ransomware threats.


Automation & Scripting:

  • Develop workflows, scripts, and automation to streamline backup and restore tasks, including scheduling, reporting, and remediation.
  • Integrate Commvault with AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows.
  • Support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for backup configuration using Terraform and AWS Backup service.


Collaboration & Support:

  • Collaborate with cloud engineers, database administrators, and DevOps teams to ensure backup requirements are met.
  • Stay current with AWS and Commvault best practices to improve backup and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain clear documentation for backup architecture, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide training and support to IT teams and end-users on backup best practices and restore process.


What you'll bring to us...
Technical Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Commvault Backup & Recovery, including Commvault Command Center and Media Agents.
  • Experience managing backups for AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, EBS, FSx, DynamoDB, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AWS Backup and integration with Commvault.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible for backup automation.
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux operating systems, Ubuntu preferred.
  • Scripting knowledge (Commvault Workflows, Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automating backup processes.
  • Experience with AWS IAM policies, KMS encryption, and security best practices for backups.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools, Datadog and AWS CloudWatch preferred, for backup performance tracking.


Experience & Education:

  • 5+ years of experience in backup administration, with at least 2 years focused on AWS Commvault support.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud backup strategies (on-prem + AWS) and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Knowledge of AWS Organizations and multi-account backup management.
  • Experience with immutable backups and ransomware protection strategies.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) preferred.
  • Commvault certifications (e.g., Commvault Certified Professional or Engineer) preferred.
