DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, an employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP). Our community-based programs include services for young people at home, in school or in systems of care.
JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Supervisor conducts individual and group counseling services to youth experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness to assist them in achieving housing stability and permanency. This position provides clinical supervision for unlicensed staff clinicians and/or interns.
% of Role ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
40% Counseling Services
• Conduct individual and group counseling for youth program clients and document progress promptly in client records
• Serve on duty to address walk-ins, manage crises, and respond to general inquiries or crisis calls
• Perform client intakes, complete required documentation, and route records to supervisors for disposition or placement
• Provide appropriate referrals to internal and external services; ensure follow-up for continuity of care
15% Program Support and Coordination
• Assist in coordinating the work of paraprofessional staff and Mental Health Clinicians at all levels
• Engage in program planning, evaluation, dissemination activities, and training with supervisors and management
20% Other Duties
• Participate in Quality Improvement processes within Youth Services
• Contribute to Clinical Case Conferences by presenting cases for review
• Participate in staff and planning meetings as needed
• Ensure timely, thorough, and legible completion of all client documentation and submit records daily
• Notify supervisors of changes in appointment schedules as required
• Attend mandatory monthly in-service training sessions.
• Participate in clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision weekly
• Take part in broader staff meetings and other organizational meetings as required
• Fulfill other duties as assigned
25% Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory)
• Provide weekly individual and group supervision to clinicians and/or interns
• Create and implement training programs for clinical trainees completing practicum
• With completion of 12 CEU hours in Clinical Supervision, oversee unlicensed clinicians and interns
QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people
• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
• Master’s degree in behavioral science discipline
• Current, valid LMFT or LCSW license
• Bilingual skills preferred (English/Spanish fluency)
• Licensed in applicable field of practice for a minimum of two years
• Four years paid post graduate counseling experience, i.e., residential care, social services, child welfare services, general counseling, chemical dependency treatment, juvenile justice, youth services, etc.
• Ability to work as a team member dedicated to generating resources/services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender communities
• Demonstrated ability to work under direct supervision
• Ability to relate in a non-judgmental and respectful manner to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, or people experiencing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Proficiency with word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment
