Overview

Manufacturing is being reinvented — and you can help lead it. The US Manufacturing & Mobility (MFM) organization partners with the manufacturers and mobility innovators who make, move, and power the world, helping them lead their continued AI transformation and turn the Microsoft Cloud and Copilot into real business outcomes. Spanning high-tech and process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing, and mobility, MFM brings deep industry expertise and high-density technical coverage to our customers — with the customer as our North Star and AI as the through-line of everything we do.

As Chief of Staff to the Corporate Vice President of MFM, you are a trusted advisor accountable for the day-to-day running of the business on behalf of the leader and responsible for the office functions required to run operations successfully. You will lead the MFM executive office as well as have direct responsibility for Operations and the Commercial Executive team, bringing the operational engine of the business and its commercial deal-making together under a single leader.

Operating as an extension of the CVP, you will set operational strategy, orchestrate the rhythm of the business, represent the organization end-to-end, and turn leadership priorities into coordinated execution across the MFM leadership team. A defining part of this role is helping to accelerate MFM’s continued AI transformation — both in how the organization brings AI to customers and in championing AI-forward, Copilot-enabled ways of working inside the office itself. This opportunity will allow you to build deep business and industry acumen, gain unique end-to-end visibility across the organization, and grow as an enterprise leader.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Maximizing & extending the leader. Serve as a trusted advisor and proxy for the CVP — representing their goals, priorities, and vision, acting in their absence, cultivating key internal and external partnerships across customers and partners, and creating clarity in ambiguous situations to focus the organization on the decisions that matter most.

  • Business operations & rhythm of business. Manage the day-to-day running of the business on behalf of the CVP — driving the architecture, development, and execution of the rhythm of business and business-review cadence, and ensuring continuity of operations at all times, including in adverse conditions, in line with corporate governance.

  • Strategy execution & business planning. Lead strategy execution in partnership with the leadership team — translating high-level strategy into concrete plans, priorities, and KPIs; designing budgets and long-range forecasts with Finance; and shaping org design and workforce planning to deliver the leader’s objectives.

  • Drive the AI transformation agenda. Serve as a driving force behind MFM’s continued AI transformation — helping translate the organization’s AI priorities into an actionable plan, championing responsible AI and Copilot adoption across the team, and modeling AI-forward ways of working that raise the bar on productivity and insight.

  • Executive communications & external engagement. Own the leader’s communication strategy and narrative — shaping how the organization’s mission, strategy, and priorities are communicated, ghostwriting executive-level communications on the CVP’s behalf, and curating thought-leadership and storytelling content that represents the leader internally, in the industry, and at executive customer engagements.

  • Organizational health & culture. Drive organizational health and a thriving, inclusive culture in partnership with HR and the People Strategy — taking the pulse of the organization, leading culture and D&I initiatives, and ensuring a healthy organizational and compliance scorecard.

  • People management. Directly manage and develop the Operations Team (Business Manager, Customer & Partner engagement manager, and Commercial Executive team) and steward the broader leadership communities (leadership team, manager community, etc.) — modeling Microsoft’s culture, coaching for outcomes and accountability, and investing in people’s growth.

  • Special projects, programs & innovation. Drive cross-organizational programs and special initiatives, lead strategic innovation and experimentation, and create clarity on ambiguous, high-complexity efforts that require hands-on coordination across disciplines.

The “how” matters as much as the “what.” The ideal Chief of Staff brings:

  • Team-first approach — leads through others and elevates the whole office.

  • Bridges operational and executive — fluent from the boardroom to the operating detail.

  • Creates clarity in ambiguity — synthesizes the complex into clear priorities and decisions.

  • Outcome driven — focused on impact versus activity.

  • Sales & business acumen — a sharp eye for pipeline, forecast, and revenue performance, and how the business drives growth and share.

  • AI-forward mindset — curious about AI and Copilot, and eager to use them to work smarter and scale the office’s impact.

  • Extreme discretion — a trusted holder of sensitive business information.

  • Influence — able to sell an idea and rally people behind it.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
