Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. With a vertically integrated approach, Northwood designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems that power the next generation of space missions. If you like solving complex challenges and seeing your work deployed around the world with real impact, Northwood is the place to do it.

Role:

Northwood Space is seeking a Capture and Proposal Strategist to help shape and win strategic opportunities across U.S. Government, international government, and commercial customers. This person will play a central role in translating customer needs, technical capabilities, and business priorities into compelling capture strategies and high-quality written materials that position Northwood to win.

This role sits at the intersection of business development, strategy, and execution. The right candidate will be an exceptional writer and strong cross-functional operator who can help frame opportunities early, drive proposal development across multiple stakeholders, and turn complex technical concepts into clear, persuasive, customer-aligned narratives. They will work closely with growth, engineering, mission, product, and leadership teams to support priority pursuits from early shaping through submission.

Responsibilities:

  • Support capture strategy for priority opportunities across U.S. Government, international government, and commercial customers

  • Shape customer-facing opportunity strategies by translating mission needs, procurement signals, and competitive context into clear win themes and differentiated positioning

  • Lead development of strategic written materials, including RFIs, RFPs, white papers, technical narratives, presentations, and other customer-facing documents

  • Serve as a primary author and project manager for proposals, coordinating inputs across business development, engineering, product, mission management, legal, finance, and leadership teams

  • Drive proposal development timelines, content integration, reviews, and final deliverables across multiple simultaneous pursuits

  • Build and maintain reusable content, proposal infrastructure, and response playbooks that improve quality and speed over time

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in capture, proposal strategy, proposal writing, business development, strategic communications, or related roles in aerospace, defense, government technology, or other complex technical industries

  • Experience supporting or leading responses to RFIs, RFPs, white papers, presentations, or similar strategic customer-facing documents, including translating complex technical concepts into clear written narratives

  • Ability to work in-person in Los Angeles or Washington, DC

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting capture and proposal efforts for U.S. Government customers, including defense, civil, or national security agencies

  • Experience supporting commercial or international customer proposals, strategic bids, or partnership materials

  • Experience contributing to win strategy, competitive positioning, customer messaging, or opportunity shaping prior to formal solicitation release

  • Familiarity with federal acquisition processes, proposal structures, and evaluation criteria

  • Experience writing about highly technical products, systems, or mission concepts in aerospace, communications, infrastructure, defense-tech, or related fields

  • Experience at an early-stage startup or other fast-paced, high-growth environment

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires successfully obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance as a condition of employment. While the clearance may not be immediately necessary upon hire, we encourage you to initiate the application process promptly upon accepting this offer. Your ability to secure the necessary clearance is essential for fulfilling key responsibilities of the role. Should you be unable to obtain it, Northwood Space reserves the right to modify or terminate your employment to align with optional needs.

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed

  • This role requires being on-site 5 days per week

Compensation:

Compensation at Northwood Space is based on role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary depending on job-related skills, education, experience, and technical expertise. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at Northwood. In addition to base salary, Northwood Space offers long-term incentives such as company stock options and discretionary performance bonuses. Benefits include equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, flexible time off, 10 or more paid holidays per year, retirement savings plans, and opportunities for professional development.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
