About the Company:

General Matter enriches uranium.

We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.

In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.

Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume. Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.

Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.

We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.

Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About the Role:

General Matter is hiring a tenacious Business & Operations Recruiter to build high-caliber business and operational teams and serve as a strategic partner in shaping our talent strategy. This is an opportunity to join a lean, high-impact recruiting team and support a broad portfolio of non-technical functions, including G&A teams, People Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Facilities, Business Operations, and other corporate and operational disciplines.

This role requires the versatility to manage both high-volume hiring and specialized searches. You may rapidly build a pipeline for multiple roles within a growing function while simultaneously identifying and closing a highly specialized leader or subject-matter expert. You will own the full recruitment lifecycle, from intake, market mapping, and sourcing through screening, interview management, offer development, and closing.

The team is highly collaborative, operates with integrity, and is deeply committed to bringing nuclear fuel enrichment back to US soil. If you thrive in fast-moving environments, value autonomy and ownership, and are passionate about building world-class organizations, we’d love to hear from you.

We are open to multiple experience levels for the role. We care about capability, drive, and impact more than years of experience. Scope and responsibility will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the full-cycle recruitment process for a broad range of corporate and operational roles, from intake and sourcing through offer negotiation and closing.

  • Recruit across functions such as People Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Facilities, Business Operations, and other non-technical disciplines.

  • Balance high-volume recruiting needs with specialized-level searches, adapting sourcing and assessment strategies to the requirements of each role.

  • Act as a strategic business partner to leaders and hiring managers by providing labor-market insights, establishing clear hiring profiles, rapidly calibrating on talent, and improving interview and selection processes.

  • Conduct thorough initial interviews that assess capability, judgment, track record, motivation, and cultural alignment while delivering a positive candidate experience.

  • Design and execute creative sourcing strategies using direct outreach, referrals, market mapping, professional communities, events, networking, and targeted campaigns.

  • Deliver an exceptional candidate experience throughout the interview process that accurately reflects General Matter’s mission, culture, and high-performance environment.

  • Track and analyze recruiting metrics, including pipeline health, conversion rates, time to fill, source effectiveness, and offer acceptance, to improve recruiting outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate and complete applicant tracking system records to strengthen reporting, forecasting, and recruiting efficiency.

  • Wear many hats across the recruiting function, including coordinating onsite interviews, supporting university or early-career hiring, improving processes, and building scalable recruiting infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of recruiting experience; associate degree and 3+ years of recruiting experience; or 4+ years of professional recruiting experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Experience recruiting for corporate, business, or operational functions such as People Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Facilities, or Business Operations.

  • Full-cycle recruiting experience, including intake, sourcing, screening, interview management, offer negotiation, and closing.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple searches with different levels of complexity, urgency, and hiring volume.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and clearly articulate value to candidates and hiring teams.

  • Strong candidate-assessment skills, including the ability to evaluate transferable experience, functional expertise, judgment, motivation, and organizational fit.

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities with autonomy in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

  • A high bar for personal accountability and performance, with a record of delivering quality results with speed, ownership, and attention to detail.

  • Strong judgment and discretion when handling sensitive candidate, employee, compensation, and organizational information.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience recruiting across several business functions, including a combination of People Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Facilities, administrative, and operational roles.

  • Proven success recruiting for hard-to-fill roles in complex, regulated, industrial, manufacturing, defense, energy, or high-growth environments.

  • Ability to develop credibility with hiring managers, challenge assumptions constructively, and provide clear recommendations based on market data and candidate evidence.
  • Experience hiring across multiple levels, from coordinators and individual contributors to leadership.

  • Ability to distinguish between the top 50% and the top 5% of talent within their respective fields.
  • Demonstrated expertise in non-standard recruiting methods, including cold outreach, talent mapping, referral generation, targeted networking, professional associations, industry events, and creative sourcing campaigns.

  • Experience using recruiting data to identify bottlenecks, forecast hiring outcomes, improve conversion rates, and advise business leaders.

  • Experience developing repeatable recruiting processes and infrastructure in an early-stage or rapidly scaling organization.

  • Deep motivation for General Matter’s mission to restore U.S. fuel enrichment capabilities and strengthen national energy security.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • This position is based in Los Angeles, and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be considered.

Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary range for this role is $100,000–$200,000 annually.

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. Please note that the stated salary range is an estimate and may be adjusted based on market conditions, business needs, or other factors. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
