About Nominal
Nominal is building the connected test and operations platform powering the world's most advanced hardware systems, from spacecraft and autonomous vehicles to next-generation defense programs. Our platform gives hardware engineering teams a single place to ingest data, analyze performance, automate test execution, and collaborate across every phase of development, so they can move faster without sacrificing safety or precision. We're a fast-moving team that owns problems end-to-end, works across disciplines, and thrives at the intersection of hardware and software.

We serve top-tier commercial and defense customers, from autonomy leaders like Anduril and Shield AI to next-generation aerospace teams like Hermeus and REGENT, and performance engineering teams like Pratt Miller Motorsports, alongside mission partners within the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force on programs where failure isn’t an option. We’re backed by Sequoia, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Lightspeed. Our team draws from SpaceX, Palantir, Anduril, Applied Intuition, and other leading companies, united by a common mission: giving hardware engineers the tools to build the future with speed, safety, and confidence.

We're looking for a versatile operator to help build out Nominal's Business Operations function during a period of high growth. You'll have exposure to nearly every part of the business. This is a role for someone who thrives on variety, moves fast, and is energized by doing whatever it takes to help a company scale. The work will touch strategic planning, performance management, corporate development, investor relations, strategic partnerships, and more.

💼 What you'll do
  • Drive corporate development: Contribute meaningfully to fundraising, investor relations, M&A, and partnerships.
  • Conduct financial planning and analysis: Support FP&A, budgeting, and investment planning.
  • Build scalable go-to-market infrastructure: Formalize marketing, sales collateral, demos, documentation, pricing, and contracts. Help systematize sales processes as we grow.
  • Support new market entrance: Perform targeted research on new products, verticals, or geographies. Articulate value propositions and manage logistics for new initiatives.
  • Strengthen how we operate: Establish and maintain organizational processes and help build a best-in-class culture as the team scales. Work cross-functionally to build alignment across the business to solve novel problems.
  • Pitch in wherever needed: Talent, compliance, communications – you'll do whatever it takes to accelerate the pace and raise the quality bar at Nominal.

🎯 We’re looking for someone with
  • 5+ years of career experience, including in internal strategy, operations, & finance roles; (ideally) professional services background (management consulting, investment banking), or other fast-paced environments
  • Comfort operating across functions and context-switching between different types of work; dynamic responsibilities excite you
  • High EQ and the ability to work with a variety of personalities, functions, and seniority levels; you know how to generate buy-in without relying on hierarchy
  • Strong analytical skills, with a bias toward thinking in quantitative results
  • Problem solver with end-to-end ownership, from issue framing to resolution
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to do whatever needs doing, quickly; low ego and bias to action

🚀 Skills that supercharge us
  • Familiarity with defense, aerospace, or hardware industries
  • Technical fluency or an engineering background is a plus
  • TS/SCI clearance

✨ Benefits/Perks
  • 🏥 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 🏖️ Unlimited PTO and sick leave
  • 🍽️ Free lunch, snacks, and coffee
  • 🚀 Professional Development Stipend
  • ✈️ Annual company retreat

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
