About Atomic Semi

Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.

It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.

We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.

Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.

We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.

Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.

About the role

As a Business Operations Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting projects across all functions while partnering with teams throughout Atomic. The scope of the role spans from daily ad hoc support across internal services for the whole organization to longer-term, cross-functional initiatives with both internal and external stakeholders, all with the ultimate goal of strengthening Atomic’s fast-growing organization and building the tools and foundations that enable operational excellence.

You will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to solve ambiguous problems, establish new processes, capture and analyze data, and help others do the same. Success in this role requires initiative, adaptability, and the ability to thrive in an environment where priorities shift quickly and challenges are open-ended.

As part of a small, high-impact Business Operations team, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to a wide range of functions from an early-stage and extend beyond a traditional operations role. This role is for someone who is excited to learn and work at a fast-pace, take ownership, and help build the foundation of a fast-scaling Company.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of new or ambiguous assignments across HR, Legal, Operations, Supply Chain, Facilities, IT, Finance, and Accounting, quickly learning new tools and adapting to deliver results

  • Maintain strong organizational systems (i.e., Linear, Notion, Confluence) and communicate openly and professionally to manage tasks, priorities, and deadlines while ensuring responsiveness in a fast-paced environment

  • Proactively initiate tasks, maintain ownership, and drive projects from 0 to 1, such as standing up new processes in Ramp, ERP Systems, or other new systems

  • Assist in building and maintaining business foundations and infrastructure, leveraging tools such as Excel, QuickBooks, Ramp, ERP systems, and similar platforms to enable accurate analysis, reporting, and execution of workstreams

  • Improve internal data capture and reporting by identifying requirements, collaborating with software development teams, and contributing to the design of data tables and systems to support future operational use cases

  • Support process improvement initiatives by helping identify inefficiencies, developing automation to mitigate business risk or create efficiencies, and aiding in implementation across functions

  • Build and sustain strong relationships across internal and external partners to support execution across a variety of projects

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • 1+ year of experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, internal operations, or business analyst role

  • Proven track record of stepping into gaps to solve problems and independently offering solutions

  • Foundational understanding of GAAP, budgeting, expense management, and financial reporting, with exposure to tools such as QuickBooks, Ramp, or ERP systems

  • Experience managing complex projects with various stakeholders on tight timelines

  • Responsible, self-motivated, and intellectually curious

  • Strong quantitative and interpersonal skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel (i.e., financial modeling, pivot tables, power query), PowerPoint, data analysis, and reporting tools

  • Ability to work in a flexible environment that occasionally requires engagement outside standard working hours

Nice-to-have

  • Experience working with hardware or industrials-focused startups or businesses

  • Experience with automation and scripting languages (i.e. Python, R)

  • Experience in IT, Customer Service, Legal, or HR, or a willingness to develop skills in these areas

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
